Loewe Vintage Label Info

Hi there

I purchased a possible authentic blue Loewe leather/ suede jacket, and I’m wondering if anyone here knows where I can go to estimate the date or authenticity of the label.

In my search for labels on the internet I found a brown Loewe leather jacket and matching skirt on Poppys Vintage Clothing ( I think they are a mediator here) and some other pieces here and there but nothing with this same tag.

I have not yet recieved the item and it was a gut purchase. I do not yet know if the lining has the embossed branding- I am doing things a little backward ...I know.

The buttons are not matching to the jacket and are likely fake replacements , and I may replace them with something closer to what the jacket originally had which is anyone’s best guess ( maybe plastic or gold with Loewe embossing) . I know that brings into question the overall authenticity too.

Even if someone has an idea of era according to the boxy style of the jacket, or color please let me know thanks very much. If it is fake I do have recourse so blunt honestly is welcome.
Andrea

We might be able to help with dating your jacket, however, we cannot authenticate items on the forums (please read our forum rules). Yes, @poppysvintageclothing is one of our members - though I see the logo on the lining their item is a different one as on your jacket's label. Does your jacket have any more labels? If yes, please post photos of them. Also, does it have any shoulder pads?

Thanks so much @Midge - yes after I posted my question , a rules and etiquette thread was posted, so I apologize for my faux pas - I appreciate the response though. I still am waiting for the jacket to arrive and I may update this with more photos. I actually don’t know if there are shoulder pads but I will check when it arrives. Thank you very much! Andrea

I checked the forum rules, and exhausted my search on the site.

I have researched more , this label may be a 1960s Loewe item. It seems to have the same cocoon shoulders, and cropped sleeves, as another vintage Loewe from the same time period, with similar seams on the shoulders to the one I found.

The red flags I have:
The size tag with the red 44 is sewn underneath the brand label, from what I’ve seen the tags are usually sewn on with more care, this looks crooked.

The material tag is cut out, I point to that label in the last picture on the inside right lower hem area of the jacket- but I did find another 1960s jacket with the material label which looked to be off white too like this one, and in the same place in the jacket.

There is no Loewe brand embossing in the lining.

There are no shoulder pads.

My biggest issue is that it has fake Chanel buttons- I have asked the seller if she has the original Loewe ones.

What may point to this being authentic is:

The brand tag of course.

The collar style, and shorter sleeve seems consistent with another 1960s jacket I came across. Note the collar is leather and the body is suede. The suede is quite thin- similar to another Loewe jacket I found that said it was “blousen” instead of a jacket.

Does anyone reading this have any input on the authenticity?

I know the fake gold buttons really take away from the jacket. I feel a bit burned about this fact, I’m not sure if it will add or take away from the jacket if I replace the buttons, Loewe buttons run $35 a button so I’d probably get standard plastic or gold buttons. If anyone has thoughts on this I’d love to hear your feedback.

Judging by the style of it, that collar, the body shape etc I'd go with 60s too. I'm not sure what the issue is with the buttons since there are no images where I can see them clearly. I'm sure an expert will be along shortly to help more.

The faux (I assume) Chanel buttons are obviously replacements - I would replace those, though I can't say with what. I'd probably have to have in hand to decide...

Dating/style-wise - could be 60s. I don't know what the Loewe logo looke like then though.

As to authenticity - like I said above, we do not authenticate items on the forums, this can only be done in person. Shoulder pads or lack thereof are decided by the style/shape and have nothing to do with authenticity. Collar and sleeve style again are style details and may point to the age of the garment, but they are also not deciding factors on authenticity unless it was a style feature that was unique to a certain brand and not done by anyone else I think. Things like linings with logos may point towards a brand or not... it may also be this is something they introduced later.

Hi! Just stumbled upon this thread in my research because I got the same jacket with label as part of a 2 piece skirt set! Mine had different gold buttons as well as a set of matching blue suede buttons included. I know this thread is old but was wondering if you ever authenticated yours / got any other information. I'll attach a few pics in an imgur album here: https://imgur.com/a/oI65mqo
