    Hello Everyone!

I have a hat that belonged to my late aunt that I would love to learn more about. I have a picture of her wearing it in 1963 (see below). The label is 'Lady Beatrice Model' made in Canada. I was thinking that it could be a type of bucket hat but not too sure.

If anyone has knowledge about this style and brand of hat I would greatly appreciate
    hearing from you!

    Thank you!

Hi and welcome to the forums!
That's always great to have a photo of when something was worn. I think your hat looks spot on for early 60s. Is that it's box in the photo behind it? Regarding the proper term and possibly more info on the label, let's see if one of our hat specialists chimes in :).

Thank you for your message Midge. Yes that is the box that I store the hat in but I don't think it is the original box that came with the hat.

Thanks for the link to the trademark information Lynne. I couldn't find any information about the Lady Beatrice label so that is useful! Would you classify this hat as a bucket hat or is it another style?

...and here is a 1957 ad for a Lady Beatrice Model hat. This is posted for educational purposes only. For copyright reasons, PLEASE do not reprint this anywhere else.

Lynne your research skills are impressive!!! Thank you for sharing this! I'm going to look into the 'Milan-type straw' to see if that is what the brim of my hat is made of? Providing written confirmation that I will not reprint this anywhere...purely educational!! Thanks again!

I see an Eaton's box in behind your hat. (That's the correct graphics used by Eatons in the early 60s so its probably the original box.) We have a few Lady Beatrice labelled hats that were bought at Eaton's so it must have been a line carried in their department stores.

Thanks Jonathan - The box is in such good condition that I thought it had to have been newer. It says a lot about how older generations took care of their garments and personal items. It seems that 1963 was on the cusp of when these types of hats went out of vogue and the hat doesn't look like it has been worn many times. It may have gone up in the closet by the time the mid 60's came along and sat there for some 50 plus years before I found it. @Karin (Midge) it looks like your instincts were correct!! Thank you everyone for sharing your knowledge! This site is a real treasure trove of information!

Thanks, Tombert. I'm glad @Jonathan could confirm that about the box - I thought that logo looked like it could be 60s. I think we all like a good bit of research here and we all like when we can find something or can help with information! For all that, there are so many other companies for which we will probably never find any information because it got lost in time...

If you had to take a guess at the style of this hat would you say it was a bucket hat?

How wonderful to have the photo with the hat. The style is what I would call an Edwardian revival, very popular hat styles after both the "My Fair Lady" play and later the movie. The straw is not a Milan straw. Looks to be a mix of a cello straw or Swiss braid, cannot see what it is mixed with in the photo.

Here is a Lady Beatrice hat, owned by a woman in Canada. I have no info on the maker, other than seeing the hats over the years. This hat was also purchased at Eatons in either Toronto or Montreal

Thank you Barbara for shedding some light on the style of hat. I'll try and take a closer look at what the material is that is mixed with the straw. Now you have me wondering if my aunt was a fan of My Fair Lady and that inspired her to buy the hat? LOL

Thank you for sharing your beautiful hat! What style would this be and from what era? I haven't been able to find any information about the maker of these hats either. You can really go down a rabbit hole looking for information on the web!! Maybe something in my local library?
