Love the shape on this handbag:

Neat clasp:

Lining is a mustard yellow rayon faille:

It's got little brass feet and is in very nice condition. There aren't any maker's marks that I can see. Guess I shoulda got a side pic as well. Anyway, I'm having trouble dating it though. I'm wondering if it might be 30's? But I don't really know my handbags. Just that the shape and the mustard yellow lining make me think 30's. And it just has an an old feel do it if that makes any sense. Any thoughts?

Thanks, Carol

Carol,

What are the dimensions of that Fabulous Bag? Gawd, it's so Cute!

Ok - maybe cute is the wrong word. Cute in an elegant sort of way. ;)

Anyway - knowing how big or little it is may help date it, I *think.*

Thats is very pretty!

I was going to ask the same as Leisa size may help. Plus the clasp looks so old that I wouldn't go any farther than 40's I will take a look in my handbag book and see if I come up with anything in it. If so I will let you know.

Ahhh... dimensions... that would help wouldn't it? Here we go then: 9 1/2" wide by 4 1/2" deep by 6 1/2" (excluding handle).

Purse was a gift that arrived over the weekend. It previously resided in a midwestern antique mall.

Thanks for your help and nice comments everyone.

Carol I couldn't find anything like it in my book. Sorry Hope someone can help because it really is a nice handbag. And I love it when the inside is bright and cheery. Not just a black faille.

Thanks for checking Pauline. I appreciate it. It doesn't really need a date since I'm not selling it.

Now I have to decide what it should be worn with. A black wool or velvet winter coat perhaps?

Thanks again, Carol

Cute purse!
I have several in my closet that are very similar to yours, in all ways but the tapestry and mustard lining. The shape was popular in the mid to late 40's. Some with formed leather exteriors, and others in various types of fabrics, and/or tapestry designs. The covered frame is also indicative of that time. In my opinion, the clasp is a fairly common type, starting in the teens, to the 50's, however, the more recent ones have little or no designs on them.
This is my personal opinion, of course. I am a collector, not an expert. I just love purses. :o) Hope this is of some help to you.
