Hello everyone!!
I got a few questions about a Mackintosh Contemporary coat that I have in my store, i've already read some posts here but got lost trying to recover it.
I'll try to explain:
When i first got this coat made a search over the IGLWU label, that gave me a start point (1995 to 2005) to give it a fabrication date. But
Searching for the brand label it gaves me a big gap between the brand's design and the iglwu label (something over 80's end maybe)
Would you help me to precise a date for this coat please?
It's a pure wool coat, i don't even tryed to figure what kind is, ill'be gratefull if you could help with it too.. ❤

This looks like the 1974 to 1995 union label, right? https://vintagefashionguild.org/label-resource/union-label/ The look of the jacket is 1980s. Does it have foam rubber shoulder pads?

Hello Denise, yes it does have foam pads, big one either. About the union label I'm confused cause they are very similar.

Not sure what union label information resource and what label you are looking at that causes the confusion (maybe you can post it here) but the ILGWU remained active up until 1995, when they merged with another union, Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, to form UNITE. So as Maggie pointed out yours is the 1974-1995 label

Thank you Victoria for explained the Union label, mabe the confusion was about crossed informations at vintage blogs outside ( i'll owe you that cause i lost it out) but makes me remember a few of what i've read.
I'm not able to discuss it, just trying to fix it on my mind
About the coat, it does seems to be 80's design cause wearing it gaves me that squared shape with big sholders, the hem when closed and the short sleeves reminds it clearly, i've founded something about the brand's label tipography (the "contemporary" thing wasn't present to precise a date but it's very similar) it's on the provided pictures here, but i don't remember in what topic this is. I'll try a new search about it, do you know some article about Mackintosh labels where I can find it, please?

MacKintosh is hard to search because there is the generic term MacKintosh.

Waterproof outercoat or raincoat, named after a Scottish chemist, Charles Macintosh (1766–1843), who invented the waterproof material that bears his name. The fabric used for a mackintosh was made waterproof by cementing two thicknesses of it together with rubber dissolved in a coal-tar naphtha solution.

That said, there are a number of references to the brand in the 1980s (newspapers.com) which show a similar silhouette to your jacket.

Wow, thank you so much Maggie, i was using macKintosh's research, now I see what is wrong, i'll try to refine it better. <3
