Picked this set up today at a thrift store because I thought it was very pretty. Is there a way to date a set like this? The only label says "Made in Japan L". If you need better pictures please let me know. I just threw it on the mannequin to take photos for the forum!

Thanks :)

Interesting outfit. My first impression was that it is more recent, for the tourist/souvenir trade. The one thing that does seem to have some age is the tag! Then I wondered if it is made for a specific occasion or event - wedding night ? It would help to see any closures. How does the neck close? Is that elastic on the sleeves? Hope someone more learned than I will step in.

A Google image search brings up a pair of pyjamas on Etsy that look identical to yours (slight colour variation) and they are dated 1940.

Thanks all :) I have been doing a lot of googling too and have found many that are similar to mine are dated between the 40s and 60s :) They are in such lovely condition that it's hard to believe that they could be that old .. although they do have that lovely 'vintage' smell to them (not too overpowering though!). I'm thinking that they probably came in a set as anothertimevintageapparel said, with the slippers in a box. I found some references of people picking them up in Japan for loved ones during the Korean war .. but who really knows?

They have metal poppers that close the front. And yes, there is elastic on the sleeves and around the waist area :)
