Marie Crisp 1920s hats

Hi there! I came across two great hats from an estate sale and the label reads Marie Crisp Corporation. I found that there was an actress named Marie Crisp, married to Donald Crisp also an actor so I’m wondering if this was her hat line? I’d love to be able to properly date these hats! Also does anyone know anything about this style of hat?

How interesting, it looks likely that this may have had to do with the actress...Hopefully, someone can find the proper info. The label looks early late 20s / early 1930s to me The hats are an interesting style, a kind of cloche hat.

I only had the chance to look briefly but I see ads from 1925 in the LA Times for a sale of Marie Crisp Hats. However, that sale was not at the address on your label but at the Biltmore hotel. I will look further when I get some time.

They date to the 1930s, not 1920s, and are for casual sporting wear, such as golf, croquet, sailing, sun bathing, beach wear, etc. A great find, quite scarce. Possibly early 1940s but I am leaning to 30s.

It seems Marie Crisp incorporated in 1926 and declared bankruptcy in 1936. The bankruptcy was filed in NY, but I found a 1933-34 reference to her providing gowns for the 1933-34 season in NY theater...

...then again, I found a Marie Hazel (Stark) Crisp, b. ca. 1896 in Indiana, working as a milliner in Los Angeles in 1937, 1938, and 1940.

And here she is at your label's Sunset Blvd address in 1938...

She apparently was the actress before she divorced her husband Donald in something like 1932.

Yes I saw that ad too but was confused by Biltmore Hotel vs the Sunset address. Maybe Sunset was where they were made. So fun to see people looking into these with me!
