More Brags: An Unusual Cocktail/Afternoon Dress

This was part of the lot that contained the Patullo-Copelands. This dress doesn't have a tag but I think it is very interesting. Note the necklace/collar.

I love that necklace collar - the only other time I've seen a choker used as a collar is on a dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in the film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and whenever I see that film I always think how fabulous it looks. The one in the film was much more understated though... but Marilyn did have that habit that no outfit or hair-do should draw the attention away from her. LOL!

Lovely! Gucci did some jewelry collar necklines late '90s. Much simpler, but I wonder if Tom Ford got his inspiration from something like this?

Thanks guys. I'm saving this one till the summer doldrums end..perhaps listing it in late fall. It will be very hard to let go of, but, it doesn't fit me and where could I wear it in Phoenix?
It has some wear to the velvet but not enough to deter bidders (I hope) . BTW, I've been haunting the GW where I found this and the Patullo-Copelands last week in hopes that more of the goodies from this woman's estate will be put out. Today I found a Christian Dior 50's jacket. I checked the skirt racks 3 times trying, in vain, to find the matching skirt. Obviously, a woman of great taste died and her family dumped all her lovelies at GW. Fortunately, this GW isn't part of the regular circuit for most of the fashion crowd here. Keep your fingers crossed.
