Taxes are done YAY...and now its time for folks to start thinking about clothes again.

If I was a guy I would definitely wear these.

A nice sheen/metallic faux sharkskin quality when one is in the sunlight or spotlight.

44" Chest measure and has the original tailor's tag to date it exactly to October 29, 1968!

Ooohhh, love the suit at the top! *very* mod but without the "ticket pockets" which is very rare to find these days.

Seems rather late on as a 1968 for that Italian style of suit, but hey, you can never beat a good Itallian cut in a jacket. :-)

The mods these days call that sort of fabric "tonic". Has it any mohair in it?

...am already plotting away ... 'what lads do I know with 44" chests? who need a new suit?' LOL!

Well, it is from the Sears custom tailoring dept, and the old Sear catalogs have always been an excellent reference of what people were actually wearing at the time vs what fashion models were wearing at the time. In the US, it is true in general that "Mod" stylings are slightly altered or run slightly later in timeline than British mod as well.

I didn't put "Mod" in it - though it is that era it didn't scream "mod" from a rooftop..its more the "era". (unless you think i ought to???) At least to me it didn't, but i am not a mod men expert. I usually have dealt with more women's clothing for obvious reasons :)

I have a few more guys odds and ends that i hope to get to this weekend.
 
For men, you can't get more mod than a nicely cut ,Italian styled, shiny suit. I would have said it's the *first* item a mod male would add to their wardrobe. Here are some of the mod stores they buy their new ones from:

Merc - where London mods have been buying their shiny suits since the 60s (look under suits and then under tonic and you'll see your suit there in red!)

The flashy rich mods import their suits from DNA in Italy.

...the problem with *all* of these for the traditionalists is that they all have "ticket pockets" (one handkerchief pocket and one lower pocket on the left, and two lower pockets on the right) which the major icons of the 60s just *didn't* wander round wearing, and if you're a perfectionist like some of the guys I know, it drives you mad, but there's just no other option if you want a decent shiny suit.

So you're up on all the modern mod stores because of the poskets, *and* it's original 60s. The only downer is I'll bet it's harder to press than the modern fabrics.

Actually its not. It was super easy. The fabric is actually black with blue/green threads. And in fact of all the suits and men's wear that i am sitting on so to speak at the moment it is one of the most hassle free surprisingly enough. This i didn't have for sale right away because i was having such a conundrum about the color.

I am advising to include. I meant revise :wacko:
 
well if it's easy to press as well then you've found the perfect mod suit!!!!

D'you know the nice thing about mods, they don't make you do their ironing... in case you don't do it right. *me* not ironing right, are they insane?! The cheek of it! Hmmph! Still, won't argue... just live in hope they'll iron my Dollyrockers too while they're at it. And am mildly fascinatied at the penomenon of men actually doing ironing.

...if only you could come up with tonnes of these easy iron shiny italian cut suits with proper pockets, you could start a *very* successful mod store!

I have another 60s one that is actually another unusual one because the fabric is also slubbed, yet it has a sharkskin effect. Another one that doesn't show its true nature unless it is in the light. I am hanging on to it for a short bit as I have been in contact with the family who had the original shop it was from back then.

You know what is strange, ever since i have been getting men's suits i have really been getting into them. I find it very interesting that unlike ladies suits which are sooo varied (afterall there is everything from tailored to almost looking like an over blouse with a skirt and everything from revealing to Hester Primm-ish), you take only a couple different cuts and mix them up with all sorts of different fabrics and you get a lot of interesting things, even though you thought they would end up all the same. It is like a uniform but it is surprisingly varied. Men have it lucky in a way, because until the "little black dress" came along that you could dress up or down women did not have an equal that would suffice for any occasion. But of course there are so many different connotations of men who where "ill fitting suits" or the old phrase "they were all over them like a cheap suit, et al"

We used to joke my brother and i when we ran production for some black tie events where if two men showed up in the same black suit or tux, they would say to eachother basically "hey, nice taste" but if a woman showed up in the same dress it could be awkward at best and devastating to her at worst.

BTW my husband HATES to wear suits, but he always likes the pictures of the turn of the century to 1920s gentlemen in their suits and always says "now THAT is a suit" and would wear a suit everyday if they looked like that. He also wouldn't mind a sharkskin suit but I have not found one to fit him yet.
 
I am working on a pinstripe suit at the moment....but the cashmere is next in line so i will let you know what the measurements are shortly. I think it measures 44" acrossed the chest as well, but don't quote me on that
