Great interview, and I agree with your point about pre-1930s vintage often being too fragile to wear.

I've got traumatic memories of a silly young actress swanning around my mum's vintage shop in one of our 20s beaded dresses (it had little hanging thread loops of seed beads all over the skirt) and hearing the tiny beads cascading down the stairs as she stomped up and down them. :no:

She pretty much wrecked a garment that should have gone to an informed collector or a museum. But what can you do?

I also found your 'buyer beware' item really interesting, especially because I had no idea that dry cleaners might steal designer labels!
