All through December I am posting a number of eBay auction and store items to benefit a cause I think is great, Women for Women International. For information about this great organization and my reasons for wanting to help, please read my holiday message.

Right now I have listed gloves: swanky, sweet , and butter-soft, as well as handbags in green and deep navy. There's a 40s black velvet dress, a mohair shawl embroidered with flowers, a 60s black jacket with leopard button tabs and more. I will keep listing items all through the month, so please check back!

work like crazy to get this house in some sort of order

'Tis the season! I am better, thank you Mary Jane, but not totally...it's one of those colds that seems to want a permanent position! I hope you don't work so hard as to have a relapse.

About the cause, Women for Women International, I wrote in my most recent blog just how glad I am to be who I am, where I am. This organization is a way to reach others just like me who haven't been as fortunate. Here is their web site.

PS Yes Deborah, the black velvet dress feels just as lovely and drapey as can be!

Thank you Harriet! Yes, I'm going to continue to start auctions benefiting Women for Women International today and tomorrow. If things haven't sold yet, they will be in my store until sold.

Surprisingly, I think there is a slight prejudice against items sold for charity, as I seemed to get fewer hits and bids on the items then I think they were worth, or would normally have gotten. For instance, the black velvet dress mentioned above went for the minimum bid, while another black velvet dress I had up for auction (very cute but with some real issues) did twice as well.

Still, I'm happy to say that, with my buyers' help, I've made about $200 for the organization, and probably will reach about $300.

If that's the case, then personally I would not say anything about a individual item been sold for chaity.
Today I think it has a double meaning.

Instead just say about which charity you support and publish a total some where on your blog or auction with the grand total over a certain period you have raised from sales of vintage.
Could work better

Not a bad thought Paul! I had great success when the cause was well known and "of the minute," such as when I raised money for America's Second Harvest for rebuilding foodbanks after Hurricane Katrina hit. This was a very big deal to so many people, and the charity is very well-regarded in the US.

My theory has been to have the info right there in the auction, because I hope to at least raise awareness of an organization. In the future, I may rethink this. I do already give a certain amount of my income to various causes, but I think putting a spotlight on a cause that matters greatly to me (and to others I'm sure) adds to the impact.
