My Harris Tweed Coat Story

I love Harris Tweed. In the early 1950's I purchased a woman's light blue and gray full length coat at a San Francisco thrift store. I believe it was from the 1930's. I wore it for a number of years, then gave it to my mother who lived on a farm. She liked to wear it while doing outside chores because it was light weight and warm. After she died, much to my surprise, I found the coat in the attic. I had it dry cleaned - twice - darned one snag and sold it at one of the early 2000 S.F. Vintage Expo shows. I'll bet it is still being worn somewhere.

I have a gorgeous James Pringle Weavers Harris Tweed coat in shades of purples. The lining is completely shot now from me wearing it so much! Maybe one day I can afford to replace the lining.

You simply cannot beat Harris Tweed. It's the best quality and so amazing to see the number of colours included in each weave. Beautiful!

I sold a '50s Harris Tweed sports jacket today, to a chap who had recently bought a brand new one. He was sad to see the modern one was made in China and, he suspects, with a bit of synthetic in the weave. He's now a vintage Harris Tweed fan - the quality is incomparable.

I am a huge Harris Tweed fan. It is the most gorgeous fabric to work with (I have a friend with whom I have done some work making handbags). It is lovely to think that your coat continues to be enjoyed.
