You bring up a really good point about how so much of these embellishment techniques are missing from modern clothing. It's one of the reasons that I'm so strongly drawn to Edwardian fashions (aside from the fact that I had heirloom Edwardian pieces as my special occasion baby clothes). Even the homemade house dresses in my collection have contrast piping at the seams and neckline. I love the details that make clothing visually interesting as well as functional.

*sigh* Sometimes I think that the world would benefit from another Schiaparelli or Fortuny coming along to shake things up. Heck, I'd settle for another Lucy Duff-Gordon.
