National Sewing Month September has been National Sewing Month in the United States since 1982. While making your own clothes was once the norm for many people, more commercially available clothing in the 20th century has moved this craft into the realm of hobbies. However, trends for more individual and sustainable fashions, as well as a love for retro styles, have made it more popular again. In fact, sewing is alive and well today! This week, the VFG celebrates National Sewing Month with members posting their best home made vintage clothes, vintage sewing patterns, books and magazines, notions, accessories - and of course, fabrics!
