Hello,
I have this Lilli Ann suit that has a silk collar with frayed edges. This is due to sweat from her neck an wear. Can anyone advise me on how I could save this from continuing to fray. It doesn't break of when touched or brittle thank goodness but, it really needs attention so it doesn't continue. I have reached out to invisible thread place in London. Unfortunately he can not do his process on my garment.
What about fray check ? I will not be doing the work myself.
Thank you so much !

Hi, Are you able to please post a close up photo of the frayed area for us? That would help us assist you better.:)

I would not use any fray stop products on the problem area specially if it is silk or acetate- as it can dry hard and also stain some fabrics.

It looks like its pulled away from the collar an needs to b tacked back down. Gosh I am so thankful I have this outlet to go to. Thanks again!

Thanks for the close up photo.
Sadly I am not aware of any easy way to fix this- the fraying is significant, and it looks like the sweat has damaged the fabric.
All I can think of is to unpick the back collar and hand sew fabric down to replace the original. Is there anything in the hem or facings you could use?
Of course this would effect the re sale value- or is for personal use only?
Another of our members may have more ideas, so lets see what other responses you get :)

I don't see any other fabric I could usee unfortunately.
This is for personal use only. It means the world to me to fix. :). Thanks again. I do appreciate it.

You know I could move the fabric by the label an use that for repairs. Thoughts?
Hi again- well sure if its for your own use only and not for resale, you could certainly unpick the lower collar stand fabric, and apply that by hand as a edge trim to hide the damaged section of the outer collar.
Is that section of fabric strong though?. Its tricky to comment further without seeing the whole garment, can you post a photo of the whole suit?, as I might be able to think of another tidier way to resolve the problem.
Is the entire suit in the same fabric as the collar?

Oh you had asked about the strength. It seems strong in some areas , while some are not so strong. The black fabric seems strong.

Hi again!.
Thanks for the photo. I would be tempted to just replace the entire collar and facing.
If the suit is all black apart from the contrast collar as it appears in the new pic, then perhaps you could search for some similar vintage fabric with the gold embossing, and have a tailor/seamstress redo that whole section.
I know that would be a little sad, but if the fabric has been weakened to this extent- I think this is the best way to move forward. :)

I think you might be onto something. Sad as it is. It will just fall apart if I do not. I do appreciate your time.

Thank you again.
