So I edited this post..I originally posted about the fur. Now that I have some additional photos and need some dating help pls!

It really is amazing! No tags, nothing. There are these interesting little armpit flaps, for lack of a better word (last two photos). I have never seen these before. Maybe that will give some clue. Great quality velvet, and velvet covered buttons. Love the belt. And the huge mink collar of course. Any clue what era? The girl I got it from told me she picked it up at an antique auction. Of course, I have no way of knowing if that is true or not. I did some research and I think it might be a 1930s Marshall Field...

I will have it in hand tomorrow so I can post more pics/info about it. The girl I bought it from said that she got it at an antique show. Cant wait to get it so I can give it a thorough inspection and really date it. Its so unique!

I added new photos, please check them out! Its a great piece!

Gorgeous suit! I'll let those more experienced weigh in on date, but I'm going to be the odd woman out on the type of fur. The hairs look too long and fluffy to be mink. I see fox.

It's so dark on my screen I really can't see much detail. But it looks like that collar from the later 50s where the fur collar is set a bit lower than the roll line and can be worn out flat all the way or rolled up a bit. It looks like a natural shoulder line, too

Hi,

Ok this is one for the books! This is a gorgeous jacket. I could not believe my eyes....I used to own the EXACT same jacket, but mine was the entire suit. My collar was fox, but was more of a red fox in color. To help anyone with dating this, the original skirt was a narrow pencil skirt, narrow set on waistband, short side zipper, single button closure at the top of zipper...and came right to the knee (on me and I am 5' 5"), or right below the knee on the average woman.

I wore that suit only once for a few hours. My then boyfriend threw it in the trash one morning when I was sleeping, after we had a big fight. What a dork! I still think about that suit. I remember the velvet was a very dense thick fine velvet.

At the time I thought it was 1940's due to the fur treatment and the length of the skirt. But I don't know...sure looks 1930's when you see just the jacket!

Wow it is gorgeous! Thanks for showing it.

Was yours Marshall Field & Co.? I was pretty sure it was 30s, but I feel really confident after reading your story. So thank you!

OMG! He threw it in the garbage?!!!Say it aint so...

Hi,

Yes, he threw it away, along with several other bags of my best vintage dressy items, and a large box of the best vintage 1940's barkcloth slipcovers. He had a fit of jealousy, and I have NEVER forgiven him for being so childish. Of course, I left him shortly after!

I do not remember the label, it was 25 years ago...sorry. I have certainly seen that similar fur treatment on 1930's garments, and the shorter length skirt may date it to late 1930's, not the early part of the decade.
