Nylon lingerie 1960

Apparently there used to be a big nylon trade fair in London with over a hundred exhibitors! Can you imagine such a thing, back when nylon was seen as a new and versatile material and its popularity hadn't been overshadowed by the new synthetic polyesters.

Here's a cute clip from 1960 I found with petticoats fancy enough to wear out dancing. Love the silk shoes with bonus frills!

That was a riot...I kept wondering about the smoking with the nylon though, nylon burns quite quickly.
I must admit the black outfit was my fave, I would have definitely worn that out!!! The pj's at the end were the only thing I did not like.

You're welcome ladies - I loved the frilly shoes too. What a great idea: shoes to match your lingerie.

I remember growing up in the late '60s and early '70s and there was a spate of small children going up in flames because they stood too close to the heater in their synthetic nighties and pyjamas. It was quite frightening!

Agree Gayle - in the intro for my book "Love Vintage" I talk about my first vintage frock, a polka dot '50s party dress with several layers of sheer skirt. What I didn't mention is that the poor thing was irreparably damaged from too many smoky '80s parties. Those floating ash particles just sizzle though nylon.
