Oh the 70\'s .... and Hot Pants

Do you remember them? The closest I ever came was a cut-off pair of jeans.

The first photo is Southwest Airlines. This was back in the days when you had to quit as a stewardess once you were the ripe old age of 32.

And here are a few wedding shots.

I have a picture of my Mom in purple velvet hot pants with the over skirt and ruffled blouse, on New Years Eve '70-'71. I should see if I can find it!

Yep, I wore 'em. I had a pair of brown wool houndstooth hot pants with a matching maxi vest that I wore with a poet blouse and boots. I also wore mini dresses with matching bloomers underneath.

When I worked in NYC in the 90's I wore hot pants had two pairs me and a fellow employee wore them to work and got hell for it. But we were designers so they did not make us stop wearing them.

Great pictures.

My favorite was a little hot pants jumpsuit. And even though we we not allowed to wear pants or shorts to school, they somehow allowed "culottes" and so I got away with wearing them to school! This would have been around 1971 when I was a Junior.

Yes, I remember them. I had a pair of tan corduroy "hot pants" that I wore with pantyhose or tights and a long sleeve striped sweater. Over this I wore my maxi-coat! I do have a picture of the coat - (after I had it shortened to "midi" length) - but no photos of the hot pants! I was living in New York at the time - 1970.

In about 1971, I did a brief stint working part-time as a waitress at a Rush Street singles bar when I was in college. My tips were always better when I wore hotpants to work.

I've had searchers coming to the website recently looking for 70s hot pants, drawn by these. Maybe they're making a comeback?

Hot pants .. how fun! My mom actually wore them and I was 12-ish at the time, so I had some.

Recently, I got the coolest hot pants outfit -- seems odd to call hot pants "formal" but this pretty much IS! Sequins and chiffon. Hope you can see it - it's black on black.

I had it here for the longest time - it was hard to display/photograph and show that the hot pants were there. Once I figured out how I could do it without standing by it all the time, it sold almost immediately.

I sort of miss it now. It was fun. :cats:

oh, yes, i had a few pair, loved em! also wore them w/ boots, long vests. also had a pair of platform shoes that looked great with them. AND most of my dresses at that time were super-short, so would always have co-ordinating/matching short-shorts to wear underneath also, like Jody said.

soooooooooooo long ago...

Lizzie, circumventing high-school dress codes was one of life's most pressing challenges in the 60s and 70s. Well done!

My sister was much more into current fashion that I was, and she wore them a lot.

Here's a hot little number I sold about a year ago. I was hoping for a bidding war that didn't happen:

OH MAN...there would have been a bidding war if I'd seen that puppy.

Of course my biz partners would have committed me....

All I remember about wearing them is how much I hated sitting on vinyl upholstery with my bare legs in the summertime. Sweaty and sticky! Ick!

Speaking of peeling your legs off vinyl upholstery ...

Did anyone else ever wear (I'm almost embarrassed now to admit this) ... scooter dresses/skirt? Early '70s. I had two and even MADE one. Loved the stupid things. Now I hide under my bed just thinking about having worn that! LOL Wish I still had the pattern for the one I made. It would make a cute top now.

Oh to be that skinny again .... and young. And ..

Diana ---> I'll be under the bed

I just love the boots, those boots are amazing, I'm searching and searching all over town and online, no thigh high 70's boots yet - but I will find some (that fit) you betcha I will :)

vinyl boots? Check

mini skirts? Check

blouses with snap crotch panties to keep them in? Check

elephant bells? Check

crochet pattern pantyhose? Check

platforms? Check

Hot Pants??? Never. Ever. Not even once.

Hot pants required skinny thighs, and I never had those. And thank you for reminding me that even with opaque or patterned hose and boots, these still has a strong 'hooker in training' vibe.
