One of Four 40s Dresses. Tell Me What You Think.

Maybe I wasted my time taking pictures today. I have four 40s dresses. Must be from the same woman cause all measurements are pretty much the same and I think they are all home crafted. She must have been a little short waisted. Everyone of them are 15 inches from mid shoulder seam to waist...or is this how those 40s dresses were made..a little high waisted???? No - I think they could sell now. I am getting some results when I put WWII in the title. Wartime stuff does seem to have made a comeback.
I put up a shortwaisted mid 40s day dress last night and it has a bid this morning. So you never know.

I agree with Hollis Linda. That is a great print! And the belt does take away from the short-waistedness of it.

Definitely use wartime in the title.

Is this how they made these dresses?? Short Waisted?? Or have we just evolved to be longer waisted now.? It would be interesting to know the background on this. I just thought my mannequin was extremely long waisted!!

WWII or wartime. Gotcha. Will post about another one, too. I think on that one they almost ran out of material! It must have been scarce.

I don't actually know for certain about the shortwaistededness of it all. I do find these mid 40s shirtwaists to be that way. Women were a shorter then, but it does seem pronounced. And waists seem longer again after the war.

Maybe it was the lack of material. Or maybe they were very small breasted!! That would be bring the waist down!

Tried to look at some vintage patterns but can't seem to find any like this.
 
Linda, I too have found shirtwaist dresses from this era to be shortwaisted, maybe it did have something to do with the fabric
restrictions?
