OT: WWII photos...I gotta show them to somebody! UPDATE

really, really fascinating!

I wish I could come sit on your living room floor and pour over those albums!

I have my family's whole collection of photos (I had to pry them from my GranPapa because they were going to be ruined)-- I have a ton of pics dating from the turn of the century up to... well.. the 80's, I guess.
I have a bunch my Papa took overseas in Japan. He was MP during the Korean war. It's not WWI I-- but they're still neat.
Also.. lots of pics of him and his greaser buddies racing hot rods.

It was a very very difficult decision to make..holding onto them....

It was/is very tempting to "flip" them right away as it was much needed to pay some bills...but I just didn't want them to be passed along with no information...and then they really would just be "lost" without any names, dates, etc....and no one would ever know...

The thought did cross my mind to not sell them at all, and somehow either web or in print publish or otherwise make available for people to look at and enjoy as well.... or, maybe find some museum or archive to buy them...or if put on ebay well publicized the right person would find them...just like i was emailed from the Miami Beach Veterens with that other photo I had. The photo wasn't even listed in the title, but they found it...

BTW my husband looked at these for the first time the other day and said "Gosh, these guys had a LOT of time on their hands if they were in all of these pictures..."

So..the journey continues...

and BTW....you are welcome to dump these pics on my living floor to look at any time Kristine...just watch out for the dachshunds who love to be sitting on whatever you are are trying to read :)

Still searching...

still coming up dry....

The dangerous thing is i have been becoming ATTACHED to the photos. I need to sell them, I know...and want to make sure that the right people know about it...but i have been trying to come up with other things to sell first to justify keeping.

it is a disease, i tell you

as always, if anyone ever hears about these guys, let me know and feel free to give my email address out!

Fast forward to what seems like 10 years later...

So apropriate for Memorial Day...

KitschNSink Heros - Read about it here

KitschNSink Heros Shop

I put the VFGshop as the referral, so everytime someone buys from me, the vfg gets referral credit for it. :headbang:

I don't have too much up now...I hand selected 100 images out of the several hundred to use, but keep checking it out as it is growing rapidly. I have educational posters in the works, too. They can earn their keep by travelling around the world and getting in front of many more people who can crack some mysteries

Very cool, Chris!

btw-- you might want to proof read the last sentence in your first paragraph...

Here's a thought too.... You could go through and pick out some of the lesser interesting images -- poor lighting, no names/descriptions etc., blurry images and make a lot and put them up on ebay with a good reserve (say 15 photos with a $50.00 reserve). See who finds them and writes you about them. You can say in the listing that you have albums full of the things and will be parting with more of them in the future... I guarantee you will get collectors/researchers contacting you about them and asking what the images contain etc. Pick the buyer's brains and see what images have the most interest -- ruined cities, weapon's shots, etc.

Ah..so use an ebay listing for market research, but be careful to choose images that in case they do sell, it wouldn't break up any photo that is important to keep together. If there are a few photos that were taken to get the "right shot", etc, use the ones that weren't so good. There aren't many duds, but there are a few perhaps. Therefore, i would know what people were interested in and use those for the educational poster i am making plus all the greeting cards, etc. My luck people wouldn't write in...they would just bid. hmmm...

I am going to also tell some battle of the bulge groups i had contacted in the past on my search and some WWII re-enactor groups.

this brings some ideas though....

Just thinking though...when i had other photos from other units that i sold, the interest came from people who were historians for that particular group with the interest in identifying them.
