This ad from a 1945 issue of "Popular Mechanics" was in the book "Vanity Bags & Purses" by Roselyn Gerson.

I did use just a fragment of a metal mesh purse for cleaning pots some years back and it worked wonderfully well. But it was just a fragment - like 2/3 of one side a purse. But it didn't last a long time like the ad suggests. It fell apart and was discarded rather soon. Growing up in the great depression left its mark on me.
