Petal bodice gown...date??

Discussion in 'PUBLIC Vintage Fashion - Ask Questions Get Answers' started by Beehive Vintage Goods, May 16, 2004.

  1. Is this one late 50's?? Taffeta fabric, rear metal zipper, fabulous bust detailing...I've been calling it a petal bodice.

  2. I don't know what that neckline is called but petal sounds appropriate. I think it is 50s. Love the color with the aqua contrast.
I think the waistline is called a basque with the vee falling two to three inches below the natural waistline.
Could you put a petticoat underneath or do you feel that it should fall naturally?

I know how to make them, but I don't think we ever called them anything other than fabric petals.

Pretty dress - very Spring/ Summery.

Late 50s works for me, and a petticoat could be nice- but not too full of one.

  4. Thanks all! Petal bodice it shall be called!

Actually I do have a not too full petticoat underneath, but it doesn't give that much of an effect due to the fullness of the skirt. I think my long fuller petticoat would be too poofy for this dress.
