Please help me date these dresses

The first one I think is from the 40's but not sure if before or after the war. When listing dresses I just usually say from the 40's or 50's but this one is so awesome that I really want to be sure.

It's a fairly heavy satin fabric in plum and has a matching jacket that has shoulder pads and a peplum waist. The dress has a side metal zipper and matching belt, no labels.

Then this black taffeta strapless dress....I am thinking 40's on this one to.
The beaded bodice is a stunner, it has black velvet cups under a taffeta shelf, should I call that a shelf? It has a draped panel on the front of the skirt. It closes down the side with a heavy duty metal zipper.
I'm probably not making sense so just in case blame it on my being sick in June with a bad case of chest congestion that has now turned into walking pneumonia, hubby has just gone to get my prescription for antibiotics.<P>
TIA, Tori

Tori,

Well, first I hope you are feeling better! Second, these are stunners, esp. the black one! I'm not very good at dating 40's things, but I'd say the black is late 40s to early 50s. I have one now with a similar waistline treatment, as well as a drapey panel (not the same but similar), and I've had a couple others with treatments reminiscent of yours, and they have all been late 40s or early 50s.

The first one looks earlier to me, but really, I'm at a loss on pre-WWII things!

HTH!

Late 40s-early 50s on the first one...I would say 1948-1952 as an estimate.

The black one looks about the same time frame, maybe a tad later...I'd say maybe 1950-1953?

Laura

Hi Tori,

Did not know you were not feeling well, I do hope you are getting better!

The black one is definitely 40s, it is quite stunning I might add.

The purple (liquid satin) one is very nice as well, I would say about 1949 - 1950...it almost has the 1950s New Look about it...if you put some crinolines under it.

Thanks for all your help on dating the dresses, I hope to get these listed sometime this week...

As for me.......

Hubby wasn't able to get to the pharmacy in time before they closed on Saturday so I spent the last 2 days in bed sick with the worst pain EVER in my muscles from coughing.

For 2 days I took Mucinex DM (to break up mucus) and hydrocodone (vicodin) for pain, I was taking 1 every 4 hours, it got me through until I could go back to the doctor on Monday and get rechecked because the antibiotics my hubby was supposed to pick up were a refill from a month ago and I wanted to get checked again to make sure I didn't have walking pneumonia which is what I was so sure I had.....

She never said pneumonia but said I have a bad case of a bacterial infection and she also put me on prednisone and to keep taking the pain pills if needed. I am starting to feel a bit better but walk like I am 87 years old! I am not taking any pain pills today, I can get through this and they make me feel like shit anyway..

Thanks again, Tori
