In 1975, Tiffany and Walter James opened "Tiffany's Undercover Boutique" a Boston store specializing in lingerie and boudoir fashion. Soon the husband-and-wife team expanded their brick-and-mortar business by launching UndercoverWear. Capitalizing on the popularity of home shopping parties like Tupperware and Avon, UndercoverWear was the first to feature lingerie, pajamas and bedroom novelties. Now risqué items could be purchased in the privacy of your own home or the home of a friend.
Thanks to the titillating concept, UndercoverWear became part of the zeitgeist of the early 80s and the founders were featured on Phil Donahue, Oprah Winfrey and profiled on the television show "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" with Robin Leach.

In 1985, UndercoverWear partnered with pinup artist, Olivia De Berardinis to create original paintings featuring the company's Lingerie Collections. Over 50 paintings were created & featured in the company's catalog during those years.
In 2014 UndercoverWear sold its Home Party Division. It was relaunched in 2018. Today, many of the items sold at those early parties are now widely sought by collectors.

Annette Kellerman was an Australian swimmer, actress and performer. She was a proponent of swimming as a form of exercise and advocated for women's participation in the sport when it was considered unladylike.
Kellerman is also known for her innovative swimwear designs, which revolutionized women's fashion and helped popularize the modern swimsuit.
In 1907, she was arrested for indecency for wearing a one-piece swimsuit that revealed her arms and legs. Kellerman fought the charges and ultimately helped to change public attitudes towards women's swimwear. This feels like a pivotal moment in swimming suits changing to the form we know today. Inferred between 1911-1919 label possible dates based on Annette Kellerman creating "swim tights" in 1907 and the one piece (shorts and tunic connected) being confirmed 1926.

Item: This is one part of a two piece wool bathing suit by the Annette Kellermann brand. Note the details in the suit on the label is longer and depicts one piece just like her swim tights. Later labels (1926) show the "typical" 1920s look which was a little shorter and had a suit stripe.

Annette Kellerman (one N) was an Australian swimmer and actress. She introduced her swim tights around 1907. These swim tights covered the legs and were made of a more streamlined, form-fitting material compared to the bulky and modest swimwear of the era. Kellerman's design allowed for greater freedom of movement in the water and was considered quite scandalous at the time. In 1907 she was arrested for indecent exposure. This design was not made available to the public in as far as I’ve researched. The Annette Kellermann ( two NNs) label first sold a wool swimsuit which was made of wool- like the suits we are most familiar with of the 1920s that had a second “overdress layer” which is shorter than the Victorian/Edwardian suits but definitely reminiscent in style. (4) Dating based on timeline of personal acquisition and studying of swimsuit styles of the era. The MET states this is a 1928. I believe they are incorrect . Swim Dresses were not in vogue by this time and Annette Kellerman was ahead of her time wearing “swim tights” as early as 1907 which can be validated by articles on her arrest (for wearing Swim Tights) in 1907.

From a Torrente Haute Couture AW 1990 tweed suit. As far as I can tell, Torrente started using this font and label in 1989, and it was used for their haute couture collections until the house's last couture show in 2oo4.
