Can you please help me date this R&K Originals dress. According to the tag it's a 50's dress, but it looks more like a 70's 80's dress to me. Thank you all for taking the time to look at

the post.

Hi looks 70s to me with that wide collar. What is the fabric? - it's reading like polyester.

Regarding the label, I assume you mean that it matches the 1950s label in the label resource?

It's important to be aware, that the label resource only shows that a label was used in a particular period, it doesn't mean it was only used then. It could still be used after that period - some labels for used for decades.

agree w/70s: that collar w/that neckline that blouson waistline, all 70s elements. and also agree, many companies used a general label for many years at a time, not only in the year it (a label) was introduced.

R & K drives me crazy! It seems like their label has hardly changed over the years, even up to today.

I love R & K dresses too! I have a few in my personal wardrobe.

Thankfully labels are just one part of the fun puzzle that dating vintage garments is. The Label Resource is such a wonderful resource, but only exists because of the VFG - I was dating fashion for over two decades before it came along, based on fabrics, style, construction and detailing. That's why seeing the garment can provide so much information that the label doesn't give you.

I, too, adore R & K labels; your dress is really cute! And it's true that they used the same labels for years and years, so with this maker, you really have to look at all the other dating clues such as style, fabric, other labels present, etc. As Villa says, their labels didn't change much....

I've passed on a number of R&K Girls who know.... dresses. From reading through this thread I can see they merit a second look!

I passed by a fabulous one this last month as the label just looked new to me. It did have a 1960s look to me. waaaahhh...now I know.
It was the label the OP added. Lovely fabric on the one that got away forever.

Here's a stunning R & K I sold a couple of years ago--the nicest R & K I've ever had, and one of the nicest 50s' dresses overall that I've ever had! It had the "personally yours" label, if I recall.

And another 50s' R & K that sold last year to a customer who was thrilled with it, even though my photos weren't the best....:

Overall I'd say I've had about half a dozen R & K dresses up for sale over the last few years, from the 50s thru the 70s, and they've all sold. Most of them fairly quickly. The only ones that take awhile to sell are the late 60s & early 70s shift-style dresses in the poly knits. They do sell, and some for good prices, but they take longer than the others. I had a really cute 60s' scooter-style dress in cotton last year that sold in a flash....

If they are in good condition when you all find them, I'd grab any of them, and just be sure to price accordingly. And they should be a pretty easy sell. HTH!
