Save the Umbrella!

I LOVE umbrellas! I have quite a few I've collected... and sold my favorite one to our Past President, Anne -- it was a 50's number in leopard print!
I very rarely find a nice vintage umbrella here in excellent condition. I think, maybe, that because i live in Southern California, women didnt' buy new umbrellas... but kept using the same one for years because they ended up using it so rarely anyway!
That said... I RARELY use mine! If it's REALLY pouring, I don't leave the house. If it's just raining, I'll make a mad dash to the car. Besides... I get MORE wet just trying to close the darn thing before climbing into the driver's seat than I would have if I'd just not used it at all! PLUS, I hate putting a soaking wet umbrella in my car... and what do you do with it when you go into a store?

Heheh... I really am a product of my normall-sunny environment!

And Oh Maggie! That rounded 60's umbrella -- clear with a black band at the bottom? I have the same one except it's child-sized and has a white band at the bottom. Those are GREAT for keeping your hair/face dry in a downpour when you know your clothes are probably going to get drenched no matter WHAT you do!

Kristine, the bubble umbrella is an icon IMHO!...I believe its origin is the early 70s. I had one at that time, with a pink band. Not only do you stay really dry with these, but they refuse to blow inside out. I NEVER pass one up at any garage/estate sale or 2nd hand store!

True-- it really would take a severe windstorm to turn one of those inside out. I suspect they're more expensive to make, otherwise I'd think they'd be churing out THAT style, instead of the regular ones!

I love umbrellas too! Here's a vintage favorite:

Oh now I need to take lots of umbrella pictures too! (Excellent she thinks to herself: a diversion!! :horny:)
You'd be proud Maggie - in the last week I have used 3 different ones... miserable weather has some perks I suppose!
