Closed my eBay store and moved nearly everything to fixed price at way lower prices......click <a target="_blank" href=http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZdorotheascloset>HERE</a> to shop! Once its gone, I'm gone.....no more eBay for me!

Congratulations, Ang! It was such a relief to me to close my eBay store. I'm sure you're feeling the same way. :)

l think many of us have done this by now......before the rot completely sets in.....now l just BIN or auction...and somehoow th epressur eis off...good luck

Kistine, given my sales there in the last few weeks I dont think they're losing much from me!! But if my site sales wre theirs....wellll....they'd be sad. And they should be. They're going to end up with very few sellers down the road.....

I'll still do fixed price or auctions sometimes, but meh, the energy is better spent on the site and etsy!

Ang

Ang, I think so many sellers are doing the same thing.

I didn't have a store, but I've not listed anything on
ebay since December. My arm is a lot better now and I
worked all day today getting some pics taken to
start stocking my etsy store. I'm really excited.

Be interesting to see just how low ebay falls in the next
couple of months. Ebay is not worth the high blood pressure that goes with selling there.

Hey Ang, if I might ask, what are the ways you are letting people know where to find you away from eBay?

Maggie, most of my site traffic and customers come from Google searches, where I am on page one for most basic vintage related searches (vintage dress, 20s dress, 30s dress, 40s dress, 50s dress, 60s dress, vintage lingerie, etc)....I work hard at my code and keeping content & tags relevant to keep the bots aware of my site (thanks Linda!).

I do link exchanges, have been mentioned on well read blogs, get repeat business and referrals from happy customers, post on message boards, am involved with both the VFG and the eVintage society, sell on etsy with links to my main site and try to keep updates going on my blog, myspace and a newsletter I sign every customer who buys from me on the site up for.

What I wouldnt have done would have been to close up eBay before my site was well established and bringing in (fairly) steady traffic and sales! I worried eBay was where I was getting my exposure, and whether it was or not I'll never really know....my tracking on the site rarely showed any coming from eBay, but people could have found me there and googled my name as well.

Most clients I've developed and had conversations with will not shop eBay, actually.

I'll still list stuff there occassionally, but the store is closed and I'm more interested in developing etsy as a venue for newer vintage and patterns/textiles with my 2 shops there.

Ang

Good God woman, all I can do is sit at your feet and absorb business wisdom! May I touch your vintage hem?

I have been centered on eBay for some time and just want to make sure that the good buyers I have make it with me to the venues I'm starting up. I won't leave eBay (as much as I'd like to) until there is something going on elsewhere.

I'll still be on the VCA now and then and run BIN's and occassional auctions!! Just needed to limit my time there, wasnt worth it anymore.

But thanks!

Ang

oh inspiration plus!

One way to leave ebay is to do it over time. Gradually shift your inventory over to your own site over a period of a year or so.
I don't have ablog ( yet!) or myspace, and I still sell get more action from my site than ebay.
And like Ang, very few hits to my site come from my About Me page on ebay.
