I'm moving photos around and found this which is one of my favorite couture techniques. This is the famous circus jacket which Schiaparelli designed. There is one at the V&A and one at the Met. This is the Met's. The tail on the V&A jacket is cut off at the seam. Notice how the tail is applique'd to the sleeve cap.
