Southwestern Spirit
The Southwestern look covers a wide range of earthy options showcasing the diverse cultural influences present in New Mexico, Arizona, and surrounding territories. Drawn from the awe-inspiring rock-formations and rich heritage of its indigenous people, the impact of the American cowboy and proximity to the Mexican border, inspiration is as vast as the desert landscape itself.
Native American textiles woven in bold, geometric patterns or muted shades reflected in desert sand and sage contrast with pops of bright color - think turquoise stone and orange-red sunsets against a rich sienna mesa. Ponchos, Chimayo blanket coats, peasant blouses and patio skirts, silver concho belts, gaucho pants, plainsman hats, well-worn buckskin, sun-faded denim, and hand-beaded accessories all celebrate the independent spirit of the region.
This week members of the Vintage Fashion Guild guide you through this unique and strikingly beautiful place in the world with their best of the Southwest.
