Spring 2017 VI: Spring Safari

Whether you’re visiting an exotic locale, or sticking close to home, travel-inspired safari style is hot for Spring! This week our members showcase their expedition-ready vintage.

Think crisp neutrals like khaki and white in tailored shapes—including that safari classic: a belted jacket over trousers, skirts or shorts. Include cottons and linens, lightweight animal prints, African style summer-weight fabrics and prints, cargo/military styles, and accessories like sandals as well as animal or tropical-themed jewelry, watches big straw hats and scarves to protect you from the blazing sun, and chunky belts to tie it all together.

From my collection: a ladies' 1950s/60s genuine safari/bush jacket from Ahamed Bros. in Nairobi. Ahamed Bros. is generally credited with the iconic design of the bush jacket and has outfitted such notable personages as Ernest Hemingway, Clark Gable, and Grace Kelly.
