I do believe the label reads "Treyford" and it is black wool felt construction.

Thank you Barbara! It is definitely a wool felt, I have a feeling there may have been a front veil at one time. I think you are correct on early 50's - the label font gives me that vibe at the very least and I can't help but feel like it would have had a high chignon or even a pony tail out the back. Thank you for your response.
