This can’t be vintage, can it?

I recently bought a lovely little coat off a well known online marketplace, which was described as ‘vintage’

it certainly looked like it could be vintage based on the style, but of course when it arrived and I looked at the composition/care label, I realised it almost certainly wasn’t. There was no brand label...

so two questions ... 1. any chance at all this is vintage (e.g pre 2000)?

2. If not, and it’s just ‘retro’ / vintage inspired what era do you think? I’m seeing 60s, possibly 70s?!

Either way it’s a nice little coat with some pretty details (like button backings) although I will ask to see a photo of the label next time!

I would say that it is post-2000. I'm trying to remember exactly when those babydoll-style coats were made—maybe around 2005-10? It's cute... I remember wanting something like this when they were new.

The reference is probably late 60s/early 70s.

This look was popular around 2008 -10. I have similar styled coats of my own I bought at that time.
The look was also brought back again later on

I agree it isn't vintage - Made in China is also a clue to something mostly modern.

The 'Made in China' label should probably be put on a list for tell-tale ways to date things. I am trying to think if I have ever seen that label in clothing before the mid 1990s. It might appear in some things from the 1970s or 80s, but they would be typical Chinese styles - white crochet sweaters, embroidered silk blouses, patchwork applique quilted coats... that kind of thing. You can tell they were made in China without looking at a label.

Thanks all!!! I really should have learnt by now to ask for a photo of any labels before I buy. Still, it’s a nice jacket so I’m not too upset!
