Two Vintage \'30\'s -\'40\'s Bags - To Share

I purchased these pieces last evening at the Hawaii Collectible's Show. I had to lighten the photos quite a bit to get the detail to show - but think I got it. The cordite has a tag that reads: Made of Genuine Corde. The handle is Bakelite. The navy faille pouchette has a Lucite clasp, and a tiny little change purse attached. Sorry the first photo is a bit dark but it shows the clasp the best. I think the pouchette is late '30's because of the style - the clasp is so "Deco". Lucite was available in 1936. I believe the Cordite is '40's.
Here they are:

I love both of them, especially the combo of that caramel Bakelite with the black licorice-like corde. The lighting on both seems perfect, Linn. Really sharp, not a bit over- or underexposed. And yay! I learned a new word! Pouchette! You got these for yourself, right? They're so elegant.

Gads, I'm getting listing anxiety now. Right around the time I started chemo in February I did my most recent house call and got a haul of about a dozen bags from the 20s through the 40s. They've been stashed away ever since. Man, I've got to get cracking!

MC-

I did get them for myself. "So far" I sell vintage costume jewelry and purchase vintage clothing and accessories for myself - to wear or use. I try really hard not to hear the "siren song" of pieces that will just live in my closet. It's possible in the future that I will sell some pieces I have collected. Since I am always looking, sometimes I find things I like more than the ones I have - and then what's a girl to do???

Thanks for your compliments on the lighting. The pictures were taken on my bed - some on a pillow sham, with natural light and a flash. I had to lighten them in photoshop (elements 6) in order for the details to show. I have only been using a camera for a few months. I still scan most of my jewelry - it works pretty well.

Looking forward to seeing those dozen bags. I'm a real sucker for '30's and '40's bags....

Sweet bags, Linn! Love that bakelite clasp on the Corde' bag. I have almost exactly the same pouchette, but in gray faille, and a bit different clasp (I think, I haven't seen it in a while....)
