UK sellers, anyone have experience claiming compensation from Royal Mail for lost parcels?

Ruth, have you tried contacting shipsurance.com to see if they cover shipments originating in the UK? Shipsurance is the umbrella company for InsurePost.com and the Shipsaver apps for Etsy and eBay.... From their website Q & A:

"What shipping carriers can I use?
Coverage is available for almost all shipping carriers. Some examples are: FedEx, UPS, DHL, USPS, Canada Post, Australian Post, Yellow, SAIA, and most common carriers. Please contact us to find out if Shipsurance covers the carrier that you use."

U-Pic also covers a variety of carriers--I found a list here (Royal Mail isn't on it, but maybe there are carriers in the UK it does cover): https://delta.u-pic.com/Order/Order.aspx (there's a pull-down menu that you select your carrier from).

If Royal Mail isn't covered by either of these insurers, do you ever use DHL? I used to use them for domestic deliveries a lot before they stopped providing that service here in the U.S. Usually they were more expensive than USPS, but not for heavier parcels. I found they were cheaper than UPS or FedEx all the time, and, depending on package weight and destination, sometimes cheaper than USPS.

Unless an order is less than a certain amount, I insure almost everything these days--especially international shipments.... Never had to use it, but the peace of mind is worth it, IMO. No having to worry about whether PayPal is providing seller coverage to that address or under certain circumstances....

I did look at shipinsurance and U-pic websites, and as far as I understand it, both only cover packages sent from USA and Canada.

I agree I'd like to insure all parcels with a company I felt likely to be easy to claim from. But perhaps these third-party services don't yet exist in the UK, so I'll have to use the insurance options given by whatever courier I use.
