Hello, how is everyone today? I wanted to run this velvet jacket by you - I bought it from the estate of a politician’s wife whose clothing was mainly 50-70s but this seems earlier to me. I have a 20s opera coat personally with sleeves like this, could it really be this old? The button however looks more like lucite to me which would be a later dating. Any thoughts much appreciated thank you!

I would say 1930s from the sleeve shape and the style of the button is quite art deco too.

Agree with Melanie on the dating. Looks early 1930s. The button is likely celluloid.

    Has this been shortened?

    It is a lovely garment.

Thank you both for the replies. I can’t believe it’s that old! Barbara I had a look at the hem and it’s ever so slightly different so yes it potentially has been shortened.
