Very OT: So what do you get up to in your spare time when not vintaging?

This weekend, I brought my ponio home to eat the grass and she decided to come into the kitchen...

Sometimes ya just need a break from slogging away at it all and ebay and let your hair down?:trashpc:

So what do you all do then?:USEROCKY:

Hey, that's one of those alternative fuel mower/fertalizer units!
Is she wearing a blindfold?

I garden...will have to take a piccy of the newest bed and post it.

I read mostly... I'm kinda nerdy, I'm into politics and classic literature.

We are also big board game fans around here.. I am the scrabble queen

I like cooking, but its not really a hobby since I HAVE to do it everyday for five people..

and I'm a dancer, when my knees are not acting up

"spare time"

:hysterical:

I used to know what that was!

Actually, I have very few hobbies anymore......between running the shop full time and the site full time, thats 2 FT jobs and a 5 year old to raise on my own. So yeah. I relish just getting to sit down to eat, and getting to bed early! I do like to watch old movies, get into politics a little and have Mom's cocktail hour outside once in a while with my daughter and my upstairs neighbors daughter out on our front stoop once in a while.

Some day, I intend to go on a date again too.

That last picture is great!! Looks like Mr. Ed...Wilburrrr.

My new hobbys this week....I am experimenting in making my own ice cream flavors. I am using tofu instead of milk and I think I have actually mastered some really good flavors. I even went out and bought a fancy ice cream maker today to further my quest....

I also like to garden, or should say plant things for the deer to eat....

I throw a lot of dinner parties. Love to socialize and have people over.

I spend as much time as I can with my boyfriend when he is not on tour or rehearsing...

I am also on this kick of making xmas ornaments out of playing cards....I don't think it is going to make it threw the summer though.

And making lots of frothy, rum & fruit drinks....

I'm with Ang...what is "free time", I can't remember! I looove to read but haven't had time. I like going to the movies when possible. What I'd really like is to paint again. I just organized all of our craft and art supplies and I actually had space for my paints and brushes. I would love to do a watercolor or acrylic painting. For now, I'll have to make due finger painting with the kids!

Another vote for "what's spare time??".

Ang: so glad to hear that you're flat out - I was starting to think you must be super woman. I find the shop more than a full time job and I have some one to do the floor four days a week! I'm on the floor (ie, selling) two or three days a week - I try to limit my time because there is so much to do and there's a book to finish, but any time I go in there my time just flies. I couldn't even think about selling online, just not enough time...

But anyway - this was about spare time, not all that other stuff :scratchchin:

I have a much neglected husband who wants to be a father so my "hobby" is going to be giving him some lovin' but I need some time and energy and less stress before I can think of feeling up to it.

I think the answer to this question needs to be divided into two answers:

1) What do you get up to in your spare time when not vintaging?

2) What would you LOVE to get up to in your spare time when not vintaging - if you had all the time in the world?

Gee, I haven't been on a horse in about 35 years. Lei, your horsey is beautiful! Why is her head covered? I'm still upset about that poor filly in the Kentucky Derby. :(

I'm with Ang on the someday date thing. NO, not WITH Ang, just getting back to dating. :violins:

It's a fly mask that Sen is wearing. The flies bug her and always give her eye infections every summer so I bought her one to see if that helps any.

I'm usually run ragged off my feet too. It was just this week that things had calmed down so brought Sen home to "play" with.
I'd like to get back into reading more but I'm always shattered by the time I get to bed.

a) apart from housework, taxi driving the kids around, dog walking, making meals etc???? I keep on top of the garden and play and potter in the greenhouse AND paint or draw asd l did all of those things yesterday....unfortunately l didnt cover the watercolour and the condensation from the glass in the greenhouse left some unusual alien marks in my sky!!

b) what l would like to do...???....er have more sex, eat more chocolate, not necessarily in that order, perhaps at the same time!!..........UMmmm l write book reviews and am a little behind on that as the books are stacking up and l'm NOT in reading mode, I would love to travel more ...anywhere...paint more, visit more ART galleries and learn more about Art in general...did l mention chocolate...??!!

and here are my den pics and have to share the Wisteria with you..its sooo gorgeous!!

Is there a world without vintaging?:icon_dante:

I have learned to mow and it takes three two hour days or 2 longer days. I also planted some tomatoes so we will see if they will live. Also planted some flowers and am working on a new flower bed.

I also have some trips planned to go searching for vintage which is so relaxing to me and exciting!

Other than that, summer is filled with going to camp nearby and spending time by the fire, getting a tan and chillin out. Maybe I will have time to read a book or two.

Oh, and still more painting to do this summer. (remember my design on a dime last summer?)

Sara, the wisteria is just beautiful and Lei, I love your horsey!

LOVe your horse, too!! how cute is that!!?!!!

spare time is spent here on the boards (heh heh) but mostly in our gardens. We also have the family farm to care for, and since everyone else in the family is now out of state, that pretty much leaves me to do the mowing, etc which takes at least 4 hours, but if done COMPLETELY (throught the grove, down the lane and to the pasture) its more around 8 hours. i might post some pics if i think about it one of these days.

i have some inspired ideas for some vintage material based products, but am trying to finish my "sewing room" before unpacking said vintage fabrics. so ONE of these days...

plus i have a little old (Victorian 1902) house we're in the process of renovating to become not only storage for my online businesses, but also to (insert dream music here) one day open to the public as a vintage wares/garden plants/cafe.

we'll see. maybe when i'm 90 i'll have more time.

When I'm not vintaging, these days I'm usually singing. I'm in a 100 voice chorus called The River Singers (that's me in the back, the tall one just to the right of the big gold cross, LOL!) We are not a church group per se but we perform traditional songs from all cultures of the world including shape note, gospel, etc.

I'm plonk in front of the cross in this shot!

I'm also now in a hospice choral group called Hallowell, this smaller ensemble sings in assisted living facilities and at bedsides of folks who are dying or terminally ill. I completed hospice orientation this Spring to do this work, and have been learning the soprano parts in a songbook with a large repertoire of largely soothing, very peaceful and lovely music. Last weekend, for example, I sang with 6 others for a ward of dementia patients. It can be very emotional, and it's very rewarding for me...

In Summer I garden - mostly actually weed - my crowded perennial beds. I like to cook for DH or have little dinner parties. I enjoy renting movies, drinking red wine, :booze: eating chocolate, playing with my kitty, reading fashion mags and all manner of books. I go to Curves 3 times a week to work off the red wine and the chocolate! :cats:

There just aren't enough hours in the day for everything.

Jen

The pictures are priceless!

I can't get enough of the horsie in the kitchen!

That does it; I must get wisteria for my little house.

Jen, I thought my little corner of America was the only place that still did shaped notes! That's really cool. And there's no better work than people who sing for Hospice.:clapping:

Okay, where do I start?

I spend a lot of my time involved in projects, things like the shopping bags I'm selling for my animal rescue group. I also make journals, and work in various art media.

I sew, especially now that I just spent the money George sent us on a new sewing machine. I'm in love with it; it does everything except purchase the fabric for you.:D

I also garden. It just is not summer without fresh tomatoes and green beans.

I walk a lot. My little studio house is about a mile from home, and so I walk to it everyday, and then walk to the PO, and then walk to MIL's to check on her.

I love to read, but do not spend enough time doing it. I love both fiction and nonfiction and am always open to suggestions!

Lately I have not been on the road as much, trying to conserve energy, but about every 2 weeks I do animal transports - taking dogs from our shelter to no-kill breed rescues across the area. I combine those trips with vintage shopping!

And to satisify my inner nerd, I always have a research project going. Right now it is the up-coming sportswear workshop I'll be presenting in a few weeks on the public board, but I also have plans to do some research and writing about some local industries, including Beacon blankets (and robes) Biltmore Homespun and the Vanderbilt Shirt Factory.

And everyday, at 4 pm, is cocktail time.

Lizzie

Love the pics everyone!!

Sara, your wisteria is simply stunning...wish I could grow those here.

Jen...what is a shaped note??

I volunteer at my youngest son's Fine Arts school a lot...just received Volunteer of the Year award! :BAGUSE:

I also dabble in collage art and do scrapbooking and always have some type of craft or art project on the go!

We have traveled a ton this year, as dh bought a special pass for us both, so we have been all over Western Canada lately with visits to CA, WA, TX also. I am glad the pass is finished though, as I miss the kids!

Right now I spend a lot of time driving my son to and from work.

I like to read, a lot, and now that Josh is older I have time to enjoy reading as much as I want. Mostly mysteries.

I used to paint, but stopped when I had a baby, but I have been thinking about pulling out the watercolors and messing around.
I garden, just a bit, it gets so hot here that I always end up letting the weeds take over in about July. and I love reading cookbooks. I don't cook a lot of new things, but I love reading about cooking....

Right now all my time is taken up with this new kitty who was left behind by (I think, we can't find mom) the feral cat who had her KITTENS under my HOUSE. Josh is doing most of the work, but still.....
