This was found in a lot from a St. Louis estate. You can certainly date this jacket to late 70s, early 80s. I think this is the type that is very collectible. Made of Polyester and Arnel Triacetate.

My question is whether to wash or not. The color on the patches on the back might bleed. Or do they make these patches washable? There are some storage spots. Would you just leave for new owner to do? Jacket says to wash in cold water and hang to dry.

Also, do you think the patches will be desirable? They are machine stitched on so should be easy to remove.

Nice of the patches to help with the dating.;)

My guess is that they are washable, but I'm not sure I'd want to find out!

Try to spot clean but I don't know if I would use something like dryel on that fabric.

Well living with a jock - gym teacher - coach for ...a long time... I have to say these jackets were MADE to wash! And I can almost guarantee the patches won't be a problem either. Just don't put it in the dryer. I do his sports clothes in the regular wash all the time. Like to line dry outside in good weather. they come out great.

And vintage Adidas jackets are super collectible. I sold one to a gent in France!! and then another one to a great buyer in Japan.

Thanks for the advice. Okay, I'm going to take the plunge and wash it. Wish me luck!

Gail and Barbara, the spots came out and the patches are fine!!!!!!! Rubbed a little shout on each spot and washed. This is a miracle fabric. I guess that is why it is still so popular. Thanks so much for everyone's help. I was just gonna cry if I ruined it.

Margaret, I can see it, although I don't have my glasses on. Am I going crazy? Anyone else?

When I am worried that colors may run, I always add just a bit of white vinegar to the water. It is suppose to stop colors from bleeding and usually works. I haven't tried it in the washer as I hand wash most of the vintage stuff I buy.

After a good rinse and a bit of downey you can't smell any vinegar.
