I'm attempting to validate if this bag is real or not. I've searched for the serial number online and can't find anything. I do believe it's a 70's ish coach saddle bag. I found one similar to the one I have however the one I have has no zippers. It was made in NYC according to the stamp. However there is a bottom line that reads "Coach bag registration number" that I've never seen on any Coach bag ever. Serial number is 187-3902 Someone please help identify this bag if you can.

Hi there, the number below the Coach creed is the serial number, or the registration number, and I would date your bag to the 70s. At the time the format only included numbers, and the numbers could not be used as identifiers alone. There were differences in the bags over time though. During the 70s, sometimes the serial number had it's own enclosed space separate from the Coach creed itself, and smaller wording below that read Coach bag registration number. Between the 70s and through the early 80s the letter A sometimes had a bit of a squashed appearance, and wording that said; Made in New York City. Later in the 80s and into the early 90s the wording changed from Made in New York City to Made in the United States or just Made in the USA. Post 94 the number format changed and included lettering and numbers that indicated the manufacturing plant locations, style number, month made, and year made.

Thank you I fully intend to find an expert was just looking for a bit more info before investing to authenticate ❤️
You’re welcome. We just want you to be able to verify any of the information we share, because Coach items sometimes require authentication when sold online, and while we can tell you all about them, and share our knowledge for educational purposes, we are not authenticators.

I forgot to also mention the coach hangtag though. That Coach hang tag was also one that was used in the 70s. The imprinting was different and just below the word COACH the wording, “LEATHERWARE” appeared.
Recently, the wording leatherware was once again included on some of Coach’s modern hang tags, but the modern bags can easily be distinguished by their registration numbers.

Last question to anyone that's got more knowledge than me.... Is it possible to sell this online without authentication? And if so anyone know a fair price for it?

You could sell this online without authentication. Some sites like eBay offer authentication services when customers purchase designer handbags, however Coach is not a brand they offer authentication for, or require authentication for.

Use some of the information you gleaned here to try to price.
You know what you have now, and if you need to know more about it you can ask, but, you know what you have now, so do a search like you would if you were doing a search for sneakers but enter your bag name on any of the sites where they may be offered, you can check Google too.
The pricing even after you see, is subjective, especially if it hasn’t sold yet, because it’s a matter of want, not need, and while it’s vintage and does have value, there are still many available for sale.

We are still here and happy to assist when we can. :)
