Hello hello :)

So I have quite a number of hankies that came with my recent haul of 40s-early 60s items. There are a few different styles here and i'm quite lost with how to describe them. Some have lace, some seem to have cutwork? Also be good to know the era if anyone can tell...

Some of them have a sticker which states handmade and some were in a box with the 'lace house' marked on the back. Pictures below, anything lese i need to include to help date/identify please let me know.

I can say that the fabric is a very fine cotton with a degree of certainty (until told otherwise, haha).

I checked the address and it is now a Gerard Darel store. I'm also curious to see if I can get out the yellowing... but petrified because they seem so delicate. I saw 'restoration' mentioned in another thread... do you think that would be ok to use on these? I'm in the uk and not sure what the equivalent would be?

I have never been able to find Restoration here. One of the frustrating things, is that most cleaning and laundry brands simply don't cross the pond, in either direction. You can import them, but the postage makes me wince.

I use Biotex quite a lot. It's a gentle enzyme cleaner for soaking, and can be used at low temperatures. It works best at blood heat (approx 40 degrees), but you can certainly use it at a lower temperatures. However I'm not sure if it will help with yellowing. It's excellent for biological stains.

I believe Restoration is a similar but much gentler version of Oxiclean (Vanish to you and me). I don't know of an exact equivalent here.

I believe the second type you have shown is drawn thread work, rather than cut work.
Oh yes, that looks exactly right Ruth, thank you :)... gosh I'd love to find a vintage bedlinen set in this style! I do keep my eyes peeled but they are seldom up for sale and when they are they seem very expensive
