Red is usually reserved for weddings in Chinese culture, but Mrs. Fitzpatrick sounds like she probably wasn't Chinese... (racial profiling, I know....) Many Hong Kong tailors in the 50s-70s made bespoke clothing and Mrs. Fitzpatrick might have been the wife of a British dignitary, or even a tourist with a few days in Hong Kong on an Asian boat tour in 1972. It looks to me like a cocktail or evening gown made by a Hong Kong Chinese dressmaking/tailoring firm, but the garment isn't Chinese, although it exhibits some Chinese flair in its design, like the colour, and the straight skirt with side vents.
