Vintage Inspirations: Mad for Maxis

Fall/Winter 2022 runways were long on, well, long. Echoing ideas from the 1930s, ’50s and ’70s, designers showed everything from sleek to full cuts and sheer to weighty fabrics. This week,VFG members have gone to great lengths to show the vintage inspirations for these dramatic looks.

A 70s racerback faux halter maxi - the poppies print reminds me of the great Ossie Clark/Celia Birtwell prints of that time


A real halterneck, this 70s maxi by Aplomb of San Francisco features a tartan plaid - Bohemian and preppy rolled into one


This one is by Tori Richard - I love the trompe l'oeil scarf print that encircles the skirt


70s again - a golden age for the maxi. A two piece set in silver and white lurex - the sleeveless high waisted maxidress is paired with a bomber-style jacket. Both pieces feature a houndstooth pattern knit


And a Paradise-Hawaii mermaid-style fit & flare maxi in jersey knit
