Hi I bought this 50s era stole off eBay and I can't figure out what it is made of. No tags inside. The fur color doesn't look like anything mentioned in the fur resources part of this website, but I don't know if it's bleached/dyed. Can someone please help? Thanks so much.

Thank you all for your replies. The beaver suggestion sounds plausible. For those who think it is gray squirrel (which has majority vote 2/3 as of right now), is that supposed to be the same size as the ones in the backyard? The way it is sewn, which is divided into halves widthwise and thirds lengthwise in the back, the pelts look larger than a normal sized squirrel to me.

Squirrels vary greatly in size, depending on not only the type of squirrel, but also the region in which they live can effect the size to which they grow and the density of the fur. Gray squirrels tend to be larger than the red type of squirrel. I do not know where you live, but the squirrels I grew up with got pretty darn large. From the photo, your pelts look about right for squirrel, to me.
Beaver is much denser.
When I wore vintage furs, back in the 70s, I loved squirrel coats as the fur was so very soft. It does not wear well over time and lost favor but I still think it is a lovely fur. Very popular for a long time, not much now.
