What would I call this dress?

I suppose it could have been used for a wedding but but...? A general date would help too.
I wish I had a garden party to go to.
Thank you again.

Not at all my area of expertise, but I think that's an Edwardian day dress, known as a 'lingerie dress' because of the white colour and embroidery being similar to petticoats etc of the day. Garden party would certainly have been the occasion for it. Not a wedding dress, though it could certainly could be used as one now.

Someone else more knowledgeable may come along and tell us it's 70s tablecloth dress though, and then I shall eat humble pie.

I have always called them lingerie dresses, and often see them referred to that in the antique Edwardian and WWI era catalogs as well. Some refer to them as garden party dresses, but I always felt that lingerie is more accurate. It just seems more specific than the other terms we see.

It is a pretty one!

Thank you for your help everyone. It's so pretty that I think I'm going to ask our local museum if they have one and donate it if they don't. I'm already approaching them with other items so that might be a good place for it. The embroidery is so pretty that maybe the fashion students will get some old-is-new ideas from it.

Thanks again!
