Why I\'ll never be much of a seller;-(

Because I want to keep everything I find!

I hope I'm not the only one with this problem, but lately, I've found some very nice older things, and I can't bring myself to selling any of it!

This dress is all blue silk, almost a satin, and the beaded parts are sheer silk. The dress wraps and fastens in the front, and there is a white lining to the bodice that fastens with hooks.

The dress is in wonderful condition, although the bodice lining is pretty trashed. And I'm not sure that the closing arangement - done with snaps - is original.

Any idea as to age? Late teens? Early 20s?

This is so nice! I would keep it also, at least for a while;)

Wonderful color, as far as dating it maybe early teens? I'm not sure, I seem to always be off by a decade or two:)

Are the tassels beaded?

Kat !~)

Yes, the tassels are beaded. And it looks like the beading was done by a machine, using a kind of chain stitch.

It is a very pretty color, so I guess I'm stuck with it, at leat until I find one of the same era that I like better!

I would say teens - the waist is in a natural position, that side front waistline closure is teens, and the length is teens ( 20s is usually not actual full length). And the beaded tassels are a popular teens element.

Very pretty -and could be called a tea gown I think.

Hollis

The length is right above the ankle. Tea gown makes it sound pretty, don't you think?;)

Early, mid, or late teens? Come on Hollis, if Jonathan were here he'd be able to tell me the exact day it was first worn!

Lizzie

And that is why we love Jonathan!

Well I am bit confused. It has a very relaxed look that says later (1918 - 1919) to me, but the straighter line is earlier - (1910 - 12) or so. The beading is an abstract, almost Deco type, so I would guess later in the teens.
Now if it's a tea gown - and it really could be - those tended to be a bit different than the main styles. Always more relaxed and flowing.

So if it were mine and I were listing it, I 'd hedge with 1915 - 1919.

Hollis

OH Lizzie,
That is such a Michelle item! If it were my size I would NEVER sell it. The perfect thing to lounge luxuriously in around the abode! I bet that silk, weighted by the beading has a lovely flow as the wearer moves. Like moving a few seconds after the wearer does. An ocean of silk mezmerizing the skin....
If these are the kinds of things you are finding Lizzie then I don't blame you for not selling them!
I will leave the dating up to the experts such as Hollis and Jonathan. Just thought I would put my "I love this" two cents in :)

Michelle

Thanks so much, guys!

Yes, Michelle, this dress looks lovely on, and it is so soft and flowy. A very romantic look and feel!
