Wooden Clutch Purse (handbag)

My sister bought this bag from an antique shop in the 1960's
I'm presuming it might have been hand made in the 1940's when materials to make a lady's handbag might have been scarce. It has an Aero square-ended zip in the lining and some Roman numerals which might be connected to a previous use for the wood. The purse is cleverly made and with an up to date lining would be a great conversation piece. I'm curious if anyone in the Guild would be able to shed some light?

In my defense, when I click on the picture symbol to upload a photo it only gives you a URL option whereas the reply gives me the option to upload the photos from my desktop.
