Yes I\'ve Lost My Mind

This is pictures of my one and only hobby. I started the house in the late 1970's and finished it about 3 months ago. Can you tell I"m not very crafty. This is the first year I've been able to decorate it for Christmas.

Its 45 inches tall and I'm just barely over 5' tall so that was always a problem. Had to put it down on the floor to do the upper rooms. My wiring is horribly outdated now and many of my electric lamps wouldn't work. I'm going to purchase some new ones at some point in the future. Putting the dishes in the china closet nearly made me insane. Then I bumped it and they all fell over. I have to dust it using a q-tip.

the bed is my most expensive item. I found a doll house shop going out of business and got it for half price which was no small sum even back then. I couldn't afford to get the rest of the bedroom suite so I had to make do with cheaper pieces. The people who live there don't seem to mind.

What a wonderful thing! Your doll house looks great! I've always loved miniature things too!
Speaking of that china closet - I know how that feels! I put up displays with furniture, accessories etc. on the shelves in the cases housing my Barbie and other fashion dolls. The scale may be a bit bigger than classic doll houses (doll houses are 1/12 scale I think, Barbie is 1/6), but small accessories that keep falling down or over or won't stay were they should drive me crazy regularly...

how adorable is that?!!!! Chris, i had no idea you did such things!!! you are a far more patient person than I, stacking dishes? dusting w/q tips? you amaze me!!!

it looks SO cozy and inviting~ and i love your little sled outside of the door!!

awwwww!!

Oh Chris! It's magnificent! :wow22:

I love dollhouses. Love 'em, love 'em, love 'em! Somehow, I managed to lose my childhood ones between growing up and moving around a lot. I always wanted to do one like yours. Sigh. I do NOT need a new hobby.

We went to the Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago last July and saw this exhibit that re-awakened that dollhouse thing for me. (I took some sleeping pills to put it back to sleep - whew!)

Check this out: Fairy Castle

If you ever get a chance to see it in person, don't hesitate!

Karin, you're killing me with Barbies. DANGER! I will NOT talk or think about Barbies. Nope. Nope. NOPE.

Diana --> work, work, work ... I've got lots of work to do. Forget dolls and their houses and their friends and their clothes and ...

Wow Chris, that is such a beautiful dolls' house!

I asked Santa every year throughout my childhood for a dolls' house, but I never got one! Perhaps that's because we were an RAF (air force) family and had to move every now and then.

You've shown me that I should make my own.

boncly - thanks for the link to Colleen Moore's famous castle. She is one of my favourite 1920s films stars!

:hysterical: and, of course, OUCH!

That's just amazing, Chris! I didn't realize it was possible to rig these things with electricity...

How exciting that you finished it after all this time, and that it's become part of your Christmas decor this year! thanks for showing it to us!

I have something similar to the museum wax that is holding the thing together. I ended putting a tiny piece on the bottom of each little dish...that required several stiff drinks to steady my nerves.

Chris -

Your doll house is fabulous! I love them!

For those in the Chicago area the Art Institute has an amazing display of rooms done in
miniature. I was totally blown away and bought the book which is available from the museum.

Several years ago I decorated a 3' Christmas Tree that was auctioned to benefit the Honolulu Academy of Arts. I was chairman of the event and named it the "Chair"man's Tree. I used doll house furniture which I sprayed gold and then "reupholstered" by glueing fabric on them. I still have a couple of the chairs. It was really fun!

It might have taken you a few years, it's well worth it in my opinion, it looks great, and the details are fabulous.
well done.

That's beautiful. You really believe you're not very crafty?? Who do you think is a bit crafty - da Vinci?

I'd rather like to live in a scaled-up version of it. I have dodgy electrics in my house, so could live with the iffy wiring. And those Christmas gift bags are killing me.

Hats off to you, I love it.
