Hi all, I'm curious about this label. I have recently bough a few lots at auction of clothing, mostly between the 1950s to 1980s. I just found a swing tag on one of the items with a phone number for the store with the area code 0171 which was an inner London area code between 1995-2000 so I can at least identify that piece as later and now have the location as inner London.

Haven't been able to find any items by the brand/design house and was wondering if anyone here has heard of them or has any info they could share.... Perhaps it was a boutique? They have their logo on some of the linings of the items, most items are suits, but also quite a few very mid 80s leather wear. E.g white leather jacket with the batwings and matching skirt thumbnail_IMG_5374.jpg thumbnail_IMG_5378.jpg thumbnail_IMG_5377.jpg thumbnail_IMG_5376.jpg thumbnail_IMG_5375.jpg -pictures attached.

I lived in London from the late 80s until a few years ago. I haven't heard of them. I imagine it was a boutique. I couldn't find any UK company information based on that name, in that era. In 2000 the phone number would have changed from 0171 xxx xxxx to 020 7xxx xxxx. However not not everyone got their stationery reprinted immediately (I remember it well, London went through 4 different area codes in 10 years). So that piece could easily be into the 2000s.

Lovely to hear from you! I'm sure we'd love to hear more about your mother's fashion label. Perhaps you could find out when it began and ended? Did she have her own shop, or was it sold in other stores? Where exactly in London was she based?

Oo yes please! I echo Retro Ruth's sentiments.... When did your mother found the label? Where was the store/s. Something is telling me there was one around Fulham in London but I could be wrong. How long was her label running? What was her inspiration? Intended market?

So thank you so much to Gina Bradbury, who gave us her mothers name (designer and founder of CIBI) I was able to to look into the company details with this and found that it was trading between 1977-2006! I will dig a little more :)

    Hi,

The founder, if not the shop is well documented and I remember the shop.

Chrissi Bradbury is the mother of Gina and Julia Bradbury a respected reporter on UK TV programs such as Watchdog and Country File, Julia's father was MD for British Steel.

I believe Chrissi designed and made clothes and had a shop in Sheffield, up sticks and moved it all to London and founded the CiBi label along with her shop in Knightsbridge and wholesaled to other establishments.

I have a suede Jacket, I think early 80s with the CiBi label in it.

I lived in London from the 1999s and I've been making my own leather jackets since 2015. I have not heard of this company before now! It's possible they were a small boutique instead of an official brand like John Lewis or Debenhams; not everyone got their stationery reprinted immediately after switching area codes though (I remember it clearly - there was never time for everything).

Thanks for the information. I have a gorgeous CIBI leather maxi skirt. The quality is superb and I have often wondered about its provenance. I bought it secondhand some years ago and understood then that it was rather special, being custom made. Unfortunately, it no longer fits - I'm not a 14 any more! - and so I guess I'll reluctantly be asking a friend to list it on eBay or similar. FRONT.JPG

    Hi
Gina here. I’ve just logged in again. My mother has a very interesting story. She opened the first Couture shop in the North of England in 1979. She specialised in suede and leather. Creating classic “fabric suits” in gloving suede and leather. A first of her time. She then created accompanying shirts in beautiful Swiss silk. I joined the family business which went from strength to strength (no backers!!) and then I moved to London to expand initially the wholesale side of the business but then preferring dealing directly with the end user, opened a retail shop in Knightsbridge. Mum ran design, production and Sheffield boutique and I ran London working from mums creations. Julia joined the business for a short time but went off and successfully broke into telly. We finally closed both shops in 1997. Just before the birth of my son and due to mums health. But we went out on a high (didn’t go bust I add) and mum
Retained many of her clients privately for many years after and to this day are still very good friends. The only complaint we EVER got was that the clothes didn’t wear out. As it happens we still have lots of pieces as well bolts of beautiful fabrics and skins of leather. If anyone would like to know more please do get in touch. My mobile is 07973 382256. I am very proud of my Greek mother. She has achieved so much and it’s lovely to read this forum and see her work appreciated. Thank you. Gina
