Oh yes, it's honorable and fully sanctioned if funds were being raised to support the church. My dad worked Thursday night bingo in the church hall every week for many years. He finally insisted on retiring when he turned 100, but not until the parish ladies made good on their threat to bring in...
That is wonderful. Thank you to all the members, guest, and friends who donated!
Has a winning name been drawn to receive my Talbot book? I will need a mailing address.
We have just two days left of this fundraiser, and I am about to sweeten the deal.
I am offering this hardcover copy of Constance Talbot’s 1943 book The Complete Book of Sewing. Anyone who donates $10 or more in the next two days will be entered into a drawing for the book, shipped free via...
We have a winner!! Yes and Yes. The lady in the black bucket hat (to be fair, they are almost all wearing bucket hats) second from the left, and the year was 1963.
Thank you all for playing. Off to donate that extra $10 to the VFG right now,
Maggie, you inspired me to go into my family photos, because I grew up in an era when ladies definitely wore hats, especially if they went to church on Sunday, as these ladies did. I don’t know why they seem to be sharing a toast in the church hall, but they look like they are having fun. Those...
I don't remember a Canadian collector, but we did have an RG from the lower midwestern US who used her full name as her forum handle. She had an incredible collection of vintage sweaters and other more quirky collectibles, and had her home set up to display her treasures to their best advantage...

A wool houndstooth plaid lounging jacket with shawl collar
And a 60s nylon jersey half slip with lace hem new old stock
I agree with Donna. The other consideration is that it looks like your piece is made from nylon jersey - in my experience, "whitening" only works for cottons.

At MagsRags.net, one of my favorite neckties ever - it's a Hollyvogue 49er. The painted cowboy boots have little goldtone studs along the shank, and that's rawhide whipstitching.
And an 80s striped sweater by Sonia Rykiel
We have noticed. I think bots are showing up in lots of forums these days.
We have Forum Rules, and we try to err on the side of caution with newly-registered Guests as long as they are adhering to those rules. It's always possible that a post that sounds like a bot might be a human who wants...
In my experience, a metal side zipper does not point to 1930s. The typical 30s garment closed with snaps or buttons along the side seam. Not 100% true of course, there will always be exceptions.
It's cute! Yes to blouson bodice - the skirt treatment is a sort-of basque waist, although some basque styles go above the natural waistline too, like a faux corset.
I agree with Barbara. Darker colored clothing was more practical for wear over years. Most people, unless they were wealthy, had one or two outfits that were their "good clothes" for church or other special events.
Welcome to the VFG, Public Dove!
It's a great jacket, and I agree that it is clearly made for a woman. I think your dating is about right, although it doesn't look insulated enough for a ski jacket.
Your question about the ethics of re-selling something that may have been made using forced...

A 30s Stetson bowler, size 7 1/4 but fits my real-life 7 1/2 head
And this one-size-fits-most 60s tiki/tapa caftan
I mean like how long have you had it and where did you acquire it?
Suzanne is corre4ct about the sizing type - I don't know when Stetson switched over to S/M/L/XL - if you contacted the company, they might be able to tell you.
