At the moment the car is a little rusty and well, a state- so here's a shiny one I found on 'tinternet all done up in surf blue. That's probably the colour I'll respray this one, as it's grey at the moment.
This really is OT - I\'m getting a new car!
Well, sort of vintage related! Background is, I've always driving silly old cars and am a bit fanatical about classic mini's (think Italian Job!). I had to sell mine when I was heavily pregnant as the electrics were a mess and it was just too...
Thanks Lizzie :) I assume the laws of copyright requiring the author be credited applies for websites (or anywhere else it's reproduced) too for that matter? I realise most people would do so out of courtesy anyway, but it's a good point to be aware of!
I'm on measurement duty tomorrow night, so will let you know! It's a decent size actually, I had to clip it a fair bit at the bust and waist on my teeny mannequin which is always a god sign.. Going on the website, which is supposed to be launched by the weekend (I'm working as fast as I can!)...
This is the first time I'd tried to clean anything of this sort - I'm usually too scared! Bit it had such a dirty hem that I didn't think the cleaner would be thorough enough - it's a rayon satin and I used cool water and woolite. I have to admit though, I have a big beaded 40s satin cathedral...
Yes, all those 'ribbons' of fabric are stitched together - I would have lost patience!
Thanks Anne, it was the bodice treatment that made me think 40s too. It does feel older, but I just wanted to check what everyone else thought before wading in!
This dress is a pain as it is completely homesewn, and although I was initially convinced it was late 40s I have been known to be wrong - no really :P - so could do with some opinions before I finalise my own!
It has a boned back, side metal zipper (smaller type pull - but then this could...
I've spent this morning ringing around for a seamstress (no one is in though! :( ) as I really need to find one that would be happy to take on all my small repairs on a regular basis.
Usually I will do all the little bits and pieces myself when I actually get round to it but when it comes to...
Gorgeous dress - I would love it to!
I managed to do some quick (and slightly wrinkly, sorry!) scans
Here's some scary scarecrows smoking pipes (?) from a 50s cotton sundress with bows and frills
and my favourite little feedsack - I think - print of dancing girls and cherries and...
All sounds good to me! Waist is a little big for me :( but I'm sure it will do well. I would put folk art in the title if it was me (I search it, but then that's just me so wait for other suggestions too!)
Let us know when you list!
I like very much :)
Looks 70s folk art to me but I could be wrong. I would probably wear it on the front side (the design) if that makes sense. Are there any darts or anything?
And does it have a reasonable sized waist? :D
Fantastic dress! Yes to late 40s, foxhunting motif (but I think if you wanted to go with the national velvet angle too - mid 40s was that? - it would be justified, it could just be a little Liz Taylor under that riding hat :) ..)
Now that's a garage sale I wish i could have attended! I'm not so hot on African garb I'm afraid Marian, but shall ask my friend who is for a name for the style of outfit. It's really beautiful fabric!
Will get back to this when I can, and opefully someone else may find out in the meantime...
