    1973 Fendi Womens Sweater

Welcome to the forums, Nicole. What sort of information are you after? If it's a date, I concur that this is likely later than '73 (oh how I wish manufacturers would date their clothing accurately!). The colour as very popular in the late '70s. I can't see the Ginetex laundry symbols clearly...

Cotton eyelet trimmed petticoat: Antique? Or repro?

Do you have a photo of the Broderie Anglais underside please? I think it's machine sewn. I also have never seen an antique petticoat that has that sewn over finish at the top of the frill. These are commonly made be renactors so good to be careful on dating as construction will give them away.

1950s dress? Dating, fabric and cleaning help

Hi Plousia, this looks to be a late '50s to early '60s party dress. The fabric is likely a rayon jacquard, although something about it (the lightness? the self tie lacking buckle?) seems a bit modern but the metal zipper is of the time so let's go with that. You mention that it feels...

Floral shirt seen on Maggie Greene

HI Thezephaniah, and welcome to the forums. For those who don't know (like myself), you mean the character in 'The Walking Dead' played by Lauren Cohan. A quick google suggests the shirt is branded 'H by Bordeaux' so you might have more success if you contact them directly. I don't know when...

    Floral corduroy fabric dating

Hi Plousia, 45" (115cm) is quite wide for 1960, any chance it's an upholstery fabric which tends to be wider? If it's a dress fabric then it's more likely to be '70s I think, which is the great age for printed corduroy. Corduroy is invariably pure cotton I find, unless it's a stretch or other...

I would date both your cute set and the zipper as '50s.

Agree with Jonathan: very early '30s. Great sources, Jonathan!

What to do about pale-backed clothes moths (Monopis crocicapitella)?

We get these moths in Australia too and although I use the pheromone traps, I can't say if they're being caught in them or not, just that it's an ongoing battle here because the climate and conditions are very conducive for them. Here's my blog post which has tips for managing the situation but...

    Help with caftans please

Thanks Karin, that's really helpful too. I have no idea how to date these items, they have some age but not a lot if you know what I mean. Thanks for your comment Mary: the embroidery is wonderful! I particularly like the blackwork.

Brilliant, Harriet! Thank you - that gives me more than enough to go and find out more.

    Help with caftans please

Hi all, I have some garments that I'd really appreciate some help with - folkwear is not my strong point and these have come with zero information. Hopefully someone here will recognise the style or country of origin or embroidery technique? It's lovely embroidery, appears to be hand-done. I...

Vintage Laura Ashley Made In Wales ?Early Garden Smock

Hi everyone, just an update on this lovely frock, which Louise tasked me with investigating. I found the dress! The print is called Daisy D94 and was one of LA's earliest florals, created in 1966 (the 'D' stands for '64, each year had a different letter). The dress itself was made in the...

Help dating 1800s antique bodice - possibly 1830s or late 1840s?

I, too, see late 1840s to early 1850s and wonder if the pointed V waistline has been softened as both the exterior and interior waistline show possible signs of updating, which gives it a later look, obscuring its origins.

    Label help please!

I see Larve, but that seems like an unlikely name for a fashion company. KTV I see that you're in LA: can you maybe search local business name registers? Might be worth a shot as it's a fairly modern company, there should be records of them. Do the other labels offer any help? Eg, RNs?

In the ‘80s we called that ‘Thai silk’ which is a kind of raw, unprocessed silk that is thinner than Shantung or Dupioni.

    Need help identifying this brand

Hi Amy, welcome to the forums. It might help if we know what it is: is a hat? Or a jacket? Or something else? Could the number 30 relate to a measurement somehow? Do you know the era it originates from? If you can tell us more it would be helpful. Thank you.

Repairing Moth Holes in Velvet -- Is it possible?

Oh yes! It's almost impossible to keep the critters away here, depending on where you are in the country.

Repairing Moth Holes in Velvet -- Is it possible?

Brooklyn, this is a lovely dress and well worth saving. My advice is to get it dry cleaned, as there are likely more moth holes that you can't see yet, and you want to make sure that the moths have gone and are no longer doing their dirty work. Once it's clean, I would search for fabric scraps...

Repairing Moth Holes in Velvet -- Is it possible?

Oh yes, they love fur! I'm currently working on a costume collection and so far have found infestations in six fine wool garments (including a morning coat) and a fox fur. One '40s silk printed dress was untouched but the shoulder pads had been eaten out - not sure what they were padded with...

Repairing Moth Holes in Velvet -- Is it possible?

Hi Jonathan, I'm sorry to disagree but I've seen more moth infestations than I'd like and while they do prefer soft wools like cashmere and merino, they're not fussy when times are tough. I've seen many serious silk and rayon infestations and even found them munching away (incredibly) on acrylic...

Cleaning Vintage 1950s Wedding Gown & What is this lining fabric called?

Yes, pellon isn't loved by dry cleaners, so I would handwash if you can (depending on the fabric). I usually remove the damaged hem, undo it and cut off the minimum and rehem: it freshens it up. Unless you can soak the dress, the stains are almost always there for good and it looks so much...

    Anyone know about this brand?

I concur with Ruth. Orlon is found on garments from the '50s and '60s. Most of these beaded cardigans were made in Hong Kong and exported to companies that would put their own labels on (or not). If you'd like to know more about this, and narrow the date down on yours, you might like to read my...

    Help Dating Embroidered, Gauzy Dress

That is nice embroidery. I generally associate this sort of garment with Indian '70s for the tourist market but they were made for a long time, perhaps still are being made so hard to date, when unlabelled. Hard to date even when labelled. The initials on the back could also be an upside down...

    Help identifying Brand

It looks like CA07658, which, if correct, is registered to YM Inc. They have several brands but it doesn't look like a current one. You could research the company to find out more. The labels look '80s-early '90s to me.

The label, with information for multiple countries, suggests '90s and I bought several metres of that exact rayon velvet (colour and all) with that unusual sort of striped crush, in 1995 if that helps.

Hi Oxygenmolekule and welcome to the forums. I looked up the RN number on your tag: it's registered to Cidat USA, of 7 West 57th St NYC. Then I looked up the company details (see here) and it looks like they were registered between 1980 and 1994. From your photos, especially of the detailed...
