Lizzie -
I was totally gobsmacked to see your post to this thread - I had given up hope on finding any info at all on le vrai Agnes! Thank you SO much for your help!
In an odd coincidence, I was just researching the designer Jacques Esterel :) - right above his bio in Fairchild's...
Fab pink starlet sunglasses - 50\'s? 60\'s?

Also I'm almost certain there's a name for the type of...
I sold a saddle handbag like this - only not as nice, and probably not vintage (I really had my doubts so didn't list it as vintage) and it sold for - ? - around $70, I think, to a woman in England. It got a good number of bids, too. Yours should do better than that. Very nice!

I do believe Signore Pucci hailed from Florence - I'd be really surprised if anything he designed had a label that mentions Rome.
I think it's a fabulous dress though - is it silk? Knit or woven? As you know, the words Vintage Italian Knit are golden :)

Thanks Lizzie! And using the address to search for info is a great idea (that never ever would've occured to me - duh).
I found Agnes mentioned in NY Fashion, Fairchild's and Couture - all regarding her hats - turbans especially - & her use of patterns derived from the avant garde artists of...
Sure, Lizzy - but be prepared to cringe! I hadn't noticed the (large but faint) spot until after I'd photographed it, and I liked the pics (and the dress) so much I was determined to find a way to clean it up.
I tried: Dryel spot remover, a rust spot remover, Orvus paste... maybe some...
Is anyone familiar with the 30\'s designer Agnes?
I have this 30's Adaptation Agnes rayon crepe dress and jacket -

I'm posting this not so much to brag about the dress (although it is fantastic) but to brag that I was able to remove some fairly serious spots & restore it to its original glory ~

Welcome Bee, Tiff & Kevin - good to see you :)
Kevin - Where have you been selling in NYC? At the 26th Street flea? I used to live a few blocks away (Chelsea) and shopping there was a Sunday ritual. Back then it was both of those lots (above & below 26th) - of course that was, as...
That's a gorgeous dress! But I don't blame you for being wary about listing it (or any vintage clothing) right now, considering how deadly slow ebay has been. I've listed a few things with reserves - something I rarely do - after I 'gave' a few really lovely things away. Live and learn...
Kevin -
I bought a handful of items on Ebay for resale - all disappointments. Reselling them was completely out of the question because of (unstated) condition issues. Fortunately nothing was very pricey, but still -- I can certainly understand buyers' reluctance, having been burned myself...
Hi!
I like the Thames & Hudson book Pauline mentioned; also:
- New York Fashion - a great reference for the work of American designers. I find the way it's organized to be extremely difficult (in other words, bad) but the information - lots of it - is there.
- Fairchild's Dictionary of...
I'm LOL, Jonathan, although I'm not sure why!
But boy could I go for a nice NY strip right now... and blueberries (wild, Maine) and cream for dessert -
:)
Carolyn
P.S. Sorry Chris - nothing to add about the purse!
How would you describe this pattern?

Here's the label - anyone familiar with it?

The fabric feels like a heavy...
I tend to think of goldenrod as more of a bright yellow (like forsythia) - but there you go :) ~ you can't go wrong with good old Gold in the title.
I like the burnished quality of the color, if such thing is possible. Being a jewelry person, you'd know better than I, but I think the color...
Pauline,
I'm thinking that it has skirted bloomer panties/bottoms rather than boy-legs - a late 50's early 60's style? Great size, great label, great style - I'd be excited too!
:)
Carolyn
Thanks so much for your help.
Oh, and news flash: the leaves aren't plastic - more like a coated fabric. Not sure how to describe them, but they're slightly less cheesy than they sound (& look?) -
:)

Help - I don\'t know my chapeaux!
Truly, my knowledge of hats is nil. This one is pink (silk?) chiffon 'petals', plastic (definitely plastic) leaves & a scattering of pearls. Great undulating shape. Looks like something to wear to Ascot, or the Henley Regatta - that sort of thing. But I...
